What CD sound is the best?
Isn't 40th anniversary edition a box set? I read it includes the 2004 remaster as well as a fresh mix by Stephen Wilson (of Porcupine Tree fame) whose recordings always sound fabulous.Everything I read about that version would lead me to expect ex...
what is my system's weakest link?
Bottom line is how much do you like the THiels and want to invest in getting the most out of them. AN amp upgrade would be the initial solution.Focal is a good option to consider. They are much easier to drive than Thiel in most cases, and I tend ...
What CD sound is the best?
On a side note neither King Crimson, nor The Moody Blues, have even been nominated I am pretty sure to be in the R&R hall of fame to date. No ELP either. On a brighter note, Yes is nominated this year and will surely make it, FWIW. Great art do...
What CD sound is the best?
While listening to "Epitaph", listen to these dystopian lyrics, soak in the album cover enjoy the musicianship and artistry (including majestic and somber mellotron and lovely accompanying guitar work) and see what happens next. The wall on which t...

"And "Sweet Home Alabama," Skynyrd's signature tune--you don't hear country in that?"I lived in Alabama for four years. Folks down there hear country in that song. Guarandamnteed!"Southern Rock" in general tends to have a lot of country influences...
Objective vs. Placebo relating to system changes
Mc,Glad the new amp is sounding good. What you describe with the two amps doesn't surprise me. You have a nice AV receiver, but few if any receivers ever made (2 channel stereo even or especially multi-channel, mutli-featured A/V ones) can compete ...
System too bassy - Primaluna & Usher
"The speaker measurements shown in the stereofile link posted by Samhar show that the speakers have sensitivity of 85db coupled with 4 ohm and -41 deg phase angle at around 2k Hz."Yea, as I mentioned above, I do not think the amp/speaker match is ...
System too bassy - Primaluna & Usher
"Mapman - what made you recommend the DNM reson ic's? I've been reading about them and of course, mixed reviews. ""And right now I would like a little less bass, maybe a little more detail and I always want more sweetness in the midrange (but with...
System too bassy - Primaluna & Usher
Try dnm reson ics from source to amp for nice balance top to bottom and lots of clarity through the midrange.
System too bassy - Primaluna & Usher
" I love hi-fi but it's not my life, I still want it to look like a home."Tell me you did not just say that! This is audiogon. Do you realize the kind of characters here who are just now reading that? 😚
System too bassy - Primaluna & Usher
20", 80%, I say go for just a few more; to shoot for 100% and act like nothing happened. :^)

Thiels are NOT warm, for that flavor, look elsewhere. Thiel have unique charm. When fed right. Not inherently warm at all. More clean and detailed, especially if fed right.
