Wells Audio / AVA Synergy / PrimaLuna DiaLouge Premium HP
Schubert of course you know that we all tend to loose ability to hear highest frequencies out to 20Khz or so like most can when younger, so the gap between old rolled off tube gear and more full range gear heard back then was larger than what we w...
Is New Vinyl Exempt from Loudness Wars?
Geoff,All I;m saying is lossless CD res format is higher resolution than lossy (the .mp3 download). But yes format alone does not assure the content so anything is possible. In the case of the mp3 even, Skyfall may not be the DR champ in the grand ...
Is New Vinyl Exempt from Loudness Wars?
The Adele that I am most familiar with is the tune "Skyfall" which was the theme song for the recent James Bond movie. I know and like it from a class at the gym (balance). I only have an mp3 download from Amazon so far and its not bad, fairly lis...
Tube Integrated Amp - Help Please
So for a compact yet good sounding tube integrated under $1000, I wonder what people would recommend. The ones I’ve heard and liked are Jolida FX10 and GLOW audio Amp 1. The GLOW sounded as good as anything I thought at Capital Audio Fest a couple...
Is New Vinyl Exempt from Loudness Wars?
ct, thanks for all that.   I agree in general.BTW Springsteen is a mixed bag for me but Darkness is perhaps my favorite end to end of all his releases and I have no issues with my CD (ripped to music server) copy for what it is.BTW, playing CDs ve...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
There are automatic digital room correction devices available today that users swear by and I suspect can do a very complete job of adapting speaker output to rooms if done properly.    One way to skin the cat fairly completely in one blow if desi...
How to upgrade in pieces - or - tell me about your journey!
Cool I am looking forward to hearing.
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
crossover most likelycontained in teh can with the drivers.SBA can work off the full range signal feed into the can. With my 5 series 3 drivers on the OHM F cabinets, everything was in the can as best I recall from when I first connected those.

Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
In addition to the crossover electronics. Which should be pretty simple I think there is also what is called the "sub bass activator" circuit which is used to help extend the bass.  I'm assuming the latest x000 models still use that.   Js would kn...
Glad we still have 'brick and mortar', and good owners for gear
The two dacs I have use and am very happy with is an mhdt Constantine in my main system. And the dac in a bel canto c5i in my second system.  Not saying they sound like or as good as dcs necessarily but with dcs Puccini as one of my references pri...
Speakers that open up at low volume levels
Well I do not think there is any speaker that can be said to "open up" better at lower volume than higher.  Things pretty much always open up with volume. Some things to think about though. Is your listening room quiet enough to hear clearly at low ...
pros and cons: beryllium vs ribbon tweeters in sound and emotions terms
I've never heard any of those old full range ribbon Apogees that owners (with proper amplification) tend to cherish and never give up.   Would like to.   I feel the same way about Walsh drivers.  Once you've been there and like it nothing else is ...
Glad we still have 'brick and mortar', and good owners for gear
DCS is top notch and possible SOTA  for D/A conversion.  Prices reflect that.I bet streaming through a DCS DAC would sound just as good and mimimize cost to just the DCS technology that differentiates them.I heard DCS Puccini ( on 6 figure system)...
Neutral electronics are a farce...
Al I agree with all your points.I want my recorded music to convince me it's live, warts and all.   So I want it to be neutral and accurate.  If it sounds any way all the time, even smooth and relaxing, that is not a good thing to me.  Its not goo...
