Is there any advantage to lower efficiency speakers? 87 or below?
For a lower wattage tube amp you want both more efficient and easy load speakers for best results. For comparable bass extension those would need to be larger and probably more expensive as a result. Very fundamental for top notch results  to matc...

In general the main reason to design a less efficient speaker is to enable more extended bass out of a smaller speaker. This has been the popular trend for the most part ever since higher power SS amps started to make their mark.

B&O tends to be a bit pricey for the sound you get I think but these are $500 headphones I might just buy as a plunge into good sounding wireless phones. Very snazzy looking and comfortable as well. The sound was among the best I’ve heard. Liq...

Curved and Straight Tonearms
Either can sound very good if matched to the rest and set up properly I believe but personally I’ve always had better luck with straight tonearms. But in practice fact of the matter is I’ve never had results with S arms like with straight and most...

I have Triangle Titus monitors I use in my second system in addition to various OHMs. These are most "detailed" in teh higher frequencies in particular. They have limited bass response below 55hz or so and do their thing best only with certain hig...

Tweeters are angled 45 degree in with normal Ohm Walsh floorstanders and do not provide direct exposure with most listening locations by design.  Orienting to have the tweets more directly face  the listening position is not necessary imho but doe...

BE careful. The Ohm Walshes in particular tend to be pretty robust in my experience but amp clipping puts any speaker at risk of being damaged. I’d go easy until the new amps arrive.   I predict the new amps and OHMs may just blow you away (in a g...

Aren’t 4XO’s larger than 2.2000 as well?  That + higher efficiency would definitely make them different and probably more adept at bass in a larger room with more amps.

Cute little buggers.

Bondman,I would not expect partial obstruction above the driver to be an issue in practice given that the driver does not produce the higher frequencies ie the more directional ones that can be more easily absorbed, reflected or diffused.

When you look at the insides of the "cans", it all makes sense. JS kinda looks like a mad scientist so its only proper that his designs kinda resemble the speaker equivalent of Frankenstein.    To top it all off he found a way to be able to use wh...
