Did you ever take a step back
I like music and it matters.I also like to see beautiful things clearly which is why I wear contact lens.
Did you ever take a step back
Regardless of the pieces used or their cost, its not a step back if the music sounds better afterwards. A cheaper system with good synergy overall can outperform a way more expensive one lacking synergy.
Where to use a pair of interconnects?
One thing concrete to consider if you have multiple sources, ie CD and phono and maybe others, and your different ICs sound different to you, is the IC used between pre-amp and amp will affect the sound of all sources whereas if used between a sou...
Where to use a pair of interconnects?
It depends on many different factors. You just have to try it in different places, compare, and decide.Currently my most expensive IC (Harmonic Technologies Truth Link)is between my DAC and Pre-amp because that is where it lends itself best with my...
A turntable?
You need:1)Turntable with tonearm2)phono cartridge3)phono pre-amp (if the Pioneer you have does not have one already..check to make sure because receivers may or may not..if it does, there will be an input somewhere labeled "phono" and a place to ...

So much good sounding stuff...so many different flavors.......so little time to experience them all......
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Rebbi,When you get the 100s you'll now owe us some reportbacks on the sound differences between MWTs and 100s.We audio geeks are very demanding fellows!
How do Digital Amps Mfrs. compare in sound?
Nice thread. The comparisons of specific Class D amps is of great interest to me.My local dealer sells the small Rowland Class D stereo amp along side Audio Research and Rogue tube amps. I need to go give a listen sometime soon and hear for myself.
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Wow, Rebbi, your hooked man and on your way to even better things I'm sure!If you liked the micros I'm sure the 100s will float your boat even further.I plug the ports on the bottom of my 100's with loosely rolled up socks to lessen the bass a tad...
Rock: well recorded bass...60s/70s
"Hesitation Blues" - Hot Tuna
IMHO, not enough gain in my Phono stage
One effective, easy, and inexpensive solution for the different level issue between phono and CD is to use RCA phono attenuator plugs in line with the higher level CD IC to lower that level more to the level of the phono. I've used Harrison Labs 12...
In case you haven't seen the new Maggie?
They remind me a bit of those little mylar speakers with sub that some of the mini systems you used to see at Brookstone employed.
Keeping Hifi Equipment For Sentimental Values
Yes, but only if it also still sounds good as well.I did a custom rebuild of my old Ohm L's that I bought 30 years ago in college (see my system listing). They were the first speaks I owned that I liked enough to hold onto for a long time, and I w...
In case you haven't seen the new Maggie?
No, but it may well broaden the appeal of the line to those who like the sound but cannot accommodate the larger Maggies properly, which would include me. I've owned Maggies and would consider a Maggie satellite/sub system in a heartbeat as a way ...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
I heard about John Potis passing here a while back. There is a thread here on A'gon regarding it.John Potis answered email questions I had about amps for the OHMs also. He was very helpful and very enthusiastic....seemed like a really good guy.
