Glass Shelf under CD Player or not?
It would surprise me if you hear a difference with or without the glass in this case. Try it and see.In general, though, glass is generally quite capable of transmitting vibrations at higher frequencies and I am not fond of it as a material that l...
Pro's/Con's Of audiophile TT
Thorens used to make a portable, stick-on auto arm lift device for 10-20 dollars or so. I put on on my manual table back in the 80's and it continues to operate without error to this day (look at the pic of the Linn Axis table in my system and you...
Are There Any Good, High Power Solid State Amps?
Short answer is yes.Ones that rate highly on my personal list are Pass, Blue Circle, Bryston, and various class Ds including Rowland, Bel Canto and a host of others.
What have you discovered while downsizing?
Since overall system synergy is more of a determining factor for good sound than is just $$$$s alone, I believe it is always possible to downsize and end up with a very fine and highly competitive yet totally different system.
Denon DL 103R vs. AT OC9 - MLII
I'm using a DL103R on a Linn Basik arm on a Linn Axis table. On paper, the Basik appears to be a tad light for the DL103R, but in practice, the fact is the sound is quite excellent and the best I have ever managed out of the Linn Axis table, smooth...
DAC in a simple system?
If you really want to hear a difference in that price range, try a tube dac.
Brick or Carpet?
Brick is preferable.
Live with A Hum vs. Buy An Outboard Phono Stage
Have you tried physically moving the pre-amp with the phono stage around to see if the hum level changes with location? If so, it is inductance hum from some nearby power transformer, possibly in power amp or other component(s) or other external so...
Which DAC has a deep wide sound ?
I'd say the mhdt Paradisea is both deep and wide.
Pioneer Elite vs. Pioneer "Standard" Kuro Plasmas
I have a 50" standard Pioneer plasma.I think it has one of the best pictures I have seen. The Elites are probably even better, but for me, there is little added value. So I would have to agree with Iplaynaked.
Can I Drive More Speakers With My 2ch Integrated?
Yes. You just need a decent quality speaker switch. A speaker switch will take a single pair of stereo speaker leads in and provide multiple output leads that can be switched in in various combinations as needed.I use a Niles 6 way speaker switch ...
Advice on stacking equipment
Stacking a device with a low level phono stage in it near a power amp other powered components or devices is the main problem I've encountered, but certainly many other similar kinds of problems are possible when multiple electronic devices are in...
Recommendation for a warm mid/high end amp
Well, I'm not sure why exactly you feel the need to change, but if you did, the warmest sounding SS amps I know of are vintage Tandberg.I've actually heard Rogue and ARC tube amps deliver a very robust and fulfilling "warm" sound with PSB speakers
Sub output: Is it the woofer size or the rated RMS
More power in a sub can probably never hurt, but just be overkill perhaps.Generally, a larger driver, properly driven, will facilitate better low end response but size alone is not enough. Its the quality of the driver and soundness of the overall...
You're probably listening too loud
If it sounds fatiguing and is not normally, then it is probably too loud.If its not too loud but still causes fatigue and the desire to stop listening, then there are probably things happening in the reproduction that are not desirable and things ...
