Johnny Cash...Sounding Better Than Ever?
The American Recordings have better detail and are more live-like than his older stuff as a whole I'm finding but much of the older stuff (remastered) though largely mixed differently and more "studio like" is still sounding darn good and way bett...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Fellow OHM'ers (or OHM boys or whatever we like to call ourselves):I plan an experiment trying the big M&K sub I have running in my second system with my OHM 5s.I'm thinking this may be the more practical (and cost effective) way to beef thing...
Been listening to The Beatles ...
I've gotten a lot of listening time in of all Beatles CDs in my collection ripped to music server (along with new mono box set) over the last few weeks. I've also had a chance to listen and compare with other good mono remasters recorded originall...
Johnny Cash...Sounding Better Than Ever?
"The soundtrack from the movie "Walk the Line" is also good. (Phoenix and Witherspoon)"Love that flic! Thought of the Sun Studio scenes in that movie while actually at Sun Studios in Memphis! That movie really brought that place and those events t...
difficulty finding CD player match for Magneplanar
Ok, so the question is then how to find a player that sounds like the old Cal Audio, other than trial and error?TEchnically, impedance matching between source and pre-amp is the only thing I know of that matters, so if those specs look good, that ...
Floorstander or bookshelf?
BTW, I also agree to make sure what you have is tuned in optimally before changing.
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Bond,Toe-in/out relative to prime listening position is the best way to tune the top end of the Walshes.Use a loosely rolled up sock or foam plug to partially obstruct the flow of air through the ports on the bottom to tame the low end if needed.P...
Floorstander or bookshelf?
Either can work but good choices for floorstanders in a room that size will be more limited. For floorstanders I'd look at OHm Micro Walsh talls, 100.3s (there are a few pair up for sale on agon currently for well under $1000), 1000s, Totem Arro, ...
difficulty finding CD player match for Magneplanar
There is another thread that I started going on talking about impedance matching issues between amp/pre-amp and how a poor match can affect bass levels...some good stuff to know there. Same can be true between source and pre-amp. Maybe that is par...
High Current SS amps with input impedance = 200K
Yes, you can cross all the Ts and dot all the Is and there is still that mysterious place known as ..... The (audio) Twilight Zone....Ominous music cue........
High Current SS amps with input impedance = 200K
Foster,Yes, it will be interesting what that device might do in your case. On paper, the VTL and McCormack appear to be a pretty good match. The DNA 500 is the only other (non Class D) 500w/ch amp that I have considered to-date.

REbbi,I suspect you are in for a treat once you get everything set up!
Music file format advice
What matters is that it is a loss-less format. I've used both lossless Windows MEdia Audio (.wma) and .wav lossless and they both do the job if your device supports either.
High Current SS amps with input impedance = 200K
Here are the leading contenders for the position of amp in my main system:1) Wyred 4 Sound st-1000 or sx1000, best value, 500w/ch Class D offers potentiall best overall dynamics in my price range, 60K ohm input impedance, reported best of class re...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Reb,That's a tough one!I suspect either will sound very good and thr right choice is the one with the features that best float your boat!
