Forgiving, musical speaker.... I'll second Johnnyb53, I loved the Mirage OMD-15. I couldn't resist the sale at Vanns though, so I sold them and bought the Mirage OMD-28. I can't imagine ever wanting more from a speaker. You can't go wrong with either one. The 28s need more powe...
Mini Maggie Office System I'd offer two other options within your price range...both very different. 1. Use a DAC with preamp features, like the wonderful Audiolab M-DAC, controlling a pair of Monarchy SM70 MKII mono-block amplifiers in fully balanced mode. The Amps can be...
Best Two-Way Monitor Speakers under $700 New/Used @Branon: Those MBS-02 from SVS look nice. Impressive frequency range for a stand mount. Hard to find any good reviews on them, but for $400...why not try them. Easy enough to sell if you aren't a fan. The only caveat is they have a really low sens...
Best Two-Way Monitor Speakers under $700 New/Used @Wchang: Thanks for that information. That is exactly the setup I am working towards. I have the Grant Fidelity tube buffer I am going to use with them. It has cryo-treated 6SN7 EH tubes. I am planning on having a sorbothane vibration isolation pa...
Pioneer Elite Air Studio question Every component has an audio engineer fine tuning it. A lot of this is just for marketing. If they can get a premier studio to fine tune it, it hopefully sells better...and sounds better. No different than Ken Ishikawa tuning Marantz gear. I own t...
Best Two-Way Monitor Speakers under $700 New/Used At the beginning of this year I bought a brand new pair of Quad 12L Active stand mount speakers for $750 ($1,700 retail). Each speaker is bi-amped, with a separate amp for each driver. The detail, and dynamic capabilities of these speakers is trul...
DIY high end speakers? I've been researching this as well, and one of my favorite designs is the single, full-range, rear-loaded horns. www.frugal-horn.com has many free designs, and forums of users that have built them. Good info. Mot
Paradigm Atom or Monitor Bronze BX-1? PSB is great, however, if these will run full-range I'd opt for the Monitor as they go down to 55hz, as opposed to 65hz for the PSB. That will make a big difference in music enjoyment. Just a thought. mot
Warm Sounding Speakers So before you go spending thousands on new speakers...why not try a tube processor/buffer to warm it up a bit. I use a Grant Fidelity B-283 MKII, with super-cryoed Electro Harmonix 6SN7GP from cryoset. My Mirage OMD-28s sound warm and beautiful th...
Tube Roll for McIntosh C2300 PreAmp Sorry, didn't see the post.http://www.cryoset.com/Enjoy.Mot
Amplifier for Totem Forest I use tube in the pre-amp and then class-d power for my Totems. Sounds wonderful. Enjoy,Mot
Accurate speakers for a verity of genres? My experience is the only way to find the right speakers for you is to listen to a lot of them. Reviews are great, as are opinions, but that person might appreciate a speaker that you can't stand. For instance, I read a glowing review of the Totem...
Tube Roll for McIntosh C2300 PreAmp I use super-cryoed Mullards from cryoset. They are not expensive, and have a super black background...while smooth as silk. Try em out. Mot
Best In Wall for 2.1 setup? You will find it difficult to get info on them, as very few people ever seem to implement high quality in-walls. I bought a full 5 speaker in-wall setup from Mirage, before realizing my walls are mortar and lath. Now they sit unopened collecting d...
Best real world radial / omidirectional speaker I will second the Mirage suggestion. I've owned almost every speaker in their lineup, and currently have the OMD-28s. They are truly amazing speakers, and I only have them about 18" off the back wall. More room would be better, however, they still... |
