Monoblocks, passive bi-amped or passive tri-amped? So thanks for all the great advice. This is what I was looking for. Some solid technical reasons for, or against, multi-amping. It seems like the benefits are minimal at best, and that good quality monoblocks are probably the best way to go to max...
Solid State Power Amps That Sound Most Like Tubes? @Danielk141: I spend winters in AZ, and I've been to the dealer you are talking about...the Tempe and Scottsdale locations. Actually really nice folks. Listened to everything you can imagine, including the $250k MBLs. Stop in and I think you will ...
Monoblocks, passive bi-amped or passive tri-amped? @Elizabeth: I'm gonna make a big assumption here...so don't hurt me. :-) I'm assuming that Mirage built them this way, and recommends multi-amping, as a means to better sound from the speaker. I've read the same of B&W speakers. Maybe it is a ...
Monoblocks, passive bi-amped or passive tri-amped? @6650c: Yes, passive bi-amped...not active x-over. They get the entire signal, but only have to power part of the drivers, instead of all of them. The tweeter likely doesn't need it's own amp...probably would be wasted. Good point. It only needs a...
Monoblocks, passive bi-amped or passive tri-amped? I understand there will be no consensus...just looking for any technical info to help in my decision. The reviews I've read, along with people here on audiogon that own them, all say 200 watts per channel minimum, as the dual 8" bass drivers reall...
Monoblocks, passive bi-amped or passive tri-amped? Good advice...on both accounts. :-)I have Mirage OMD-28s. Absolutely love them, and now I need amps that will make them sing. Manufacturer recommends tri-amping, but as you have said...no concensus. Just trying to be better informed for my decisio...
Need Coaching re: Maggies & Subs My brother has an Infinity Cascade Model 15 sub, and its pretty amazing. Four 6 inch drivers, 800 watts, room correction, 100 pounds, etc. Normally $1,800...vanns has them for $500. Those small drivers are really quick and should match with your m...
Strangest Tweak? lol...damn my feeble brain. Why didn't I think of rebranding and selling it. You guys are brilliant...this is why I'm just a newbie at this.
Amp s choices to match with Wilson Sophias ? I auditioned the Sasha's with Electrocompaniet amps...sounded incredible.
Solid State Power Amps That Sound Most Like Tubes? I use a tube buffer between my source and the preamp. This warms the sound, and gives it a more dynamic presentation. IMHO, tubes on the front end, with SS for the amplification give you a great balance of musicality and control. :-)
Strangest Tweak? There was a guy on the computeraudiophile forum that bought a $3,700 facial cream (not kidding) to lubricate the speaker wire ends. It cost him $157 each time he listened to his system, as he reapplied each time. He went on and on about the amazin...
im searching for a budget 2 channel setup One more thought. If you have a coffee table by the couch, you could run a small iPod dock amplifier. In my office, I use a ROTH MC4 with Mirage OMD-5s and a Mirage Prestige S8 sub. It's small, nice looking, and with the tube pre/solid amp...it so...
im searching for a budget 2 channel setup The Apple Airport Express runs on wifi, so you should be able to connect to it, even under a couch. You can then stream from your Mac, iTouch, iPad or iPhone through it, to the amplifier. I have all my music in Apple Lossless, and it sounds every ...
