Mobile Fidelity Settlement Update I am not a Lawyer, and I hadn’t been following the story since it first came out, but after reading the link it appears that the settlement was reached a while ago; but that some people were claiming that the Lawyers involved were colluding with M...
What is your favorite Strauss The Last Four Songs? Felicity Lott, an unlikely recommendation, and Jessie Norman are my go tos
Why do Cyrus get such praise from What HiFi??? One issue with Reviews is the financial relationship between the advertisers and the content producers. Another is the long term reliability product issue. If a reviewer has the product for two weeks and there is a high failure rate after 3 mont...
Music Hall's "Classic" turntable :How does it compare to other similarly priced T/T's I would avoid it for many of the reasons stated above. Can you stretch the budget a few hundred? If Direct Drive is ok with you I’ve been very happy with my Technics. You can use your current cartridge, I believe
"ENUNCIATE GD IT" George Carlin ALSO Said: "POST LINKS GD IT" I saw Carlin live about 20 years ago but I didn’t realize that he had taken the digital world into his sights. Most of the people who post “I am thinking of buying (fill in the blank), what do you guys think?” are relative newcomers to the si...
Advice on how to liquidate system Sorry about your trauma. I would sit on selling the system, as you might regain some hearing over the next year. Also, are you a candidate fora cochlear implant?
The difference between Qoboz stream vs purchased songs If you are on a fixed income and do not already have a collection of physical media, I would definitely stream only. I personally prefer the sound quality of CDs or downloads, but it isn’t a night and day thing, as streaming gets very close
Bluesound Node for Hegel 190? I am a little confused as to the OPs current setup. You stream Tidal via your phone over AirPlay to the Hegel? Or do you send the Tidal files over Ethernet? Is there a computer in the setup? The Node will probably sound better if it connects digi...
Sat front row at the symphony... There have been a few posters in this thread that have commented on the parallels between the dilemmas of concert hall perspective and the dilemmas in our home systems (analytical versus general perspective).. A shout out to them for making this ...
Sat front row at the symphony... One of the reasons I attend concerts is because no matter how good my system gets, it will never approximate the sensations of a full orchestra in a large hall. I especially enjoy hearing familiar works, not because I am adverse to unfamiliar mus...
Digital Dilemma I find the streamer vs CDP (or transport-DAC) argument to be non productive. Rarely are people comparing apples to apples. Usually it is a mid level component on end vs a pricier piece on the other. And if everything is comparable price wise th...
Sat front row at the symphony... +1 @frogman especially the comments about highlighting the soloist in recordings, and the excellent comment about the doubling of instruments to form a unison line.
Classical Aficionados: Please Suggest Debussy Solo Piano recordings Aldo Ciccolini or Arturo Benedetto Michelangelo. The latt can be had on Blu Ray Audio
Sat front row at the symphony... I grew up in Detroit. One of my friends was a violinist who took lessons from Mishakoff in the mid seventies, and I met him a few times, as he used to lead the Youth Orchestra my buddy was in (they played the Bach Double together). I went to Med...
Ripping CD's I use a Melco N100 as a server and a Melco Optical Player as the ripper. You can save on that with a slight quality drop using dbPoweramp software and a generic optical ripper . Or get something like the Bluesound Vault to rip/store/play files |
