Why Streaming Service Sounds ‘Flat’ vs Tune In /Local FM /Radio Paradise
The Node might be a limiting factor.  It certainly is more downmarket than the rest of the OP system.  However I can’t figure out why Internet Radio would sound better than the 2 high resolution streaming services.  I had the Node for a while and ...
W4S DAC
Fwiw, I was excited about W4S DAC sometime before the pandemic, bought and then returned one.  I thought it was kind of dry, like the original Class D Amps, and sterile/clinical to my ears.  I am not sure if they were using ESS chips back then. A...
Results of Actual Hearing Test and Next Steps
@socalml528  thanks for that.  My actual appointment with Costco is this afternoon (I have to go to work to turn in my laptop, ID Badge, etc in the AM-I retire today).   I was at a wind band concert Friday night.  It was a great concert, but the...

The hearing aid recommended by ny audiologist at University of Chicago costs $5600 if I purchase through them.  Costco offers the same for $1500.  The Costco is also half a mile from my home, vs the 20 mile commute to U of C and the 10 buck parkin...
Looking for intermediate-step Streamer: better than BS Node and not @ Bartok level pricing
My Cambridge Audio CXN 60 was an obvious upgrade from Bluesound at about twice the cost of BS.  It is also great with Chromecast and Internet Radio and Podcasts
A "Downgrade" that proved to be a spectacular "Upgrade" -------
Outlaw bests Burmeister wow.  I had a pair of Outlaw amps about a decade back.  I put them on the par with a Bose table radio
Compatibility with Blusound Vault backup
OP     The data from the Vault can be transferred to any HD.  I did this several years ago with the help of an IT guy.  He had to make a call to Bluesound as the process wasn’t intuitive.   I didn’t scrub the Vault and left it connected to my L...
Apple Music and Tidal
How are you going to be listening?  Will it be with ear buds over Bluetooth or with a non compressed source into a conventional stereo system?  If it’s the former then I would stick with Apple.
Yes, another audiophile at a crossroads story and request for advice
Having just flunked my audiology test, one advantage of headphones is that  some of the newer ones offer DSP in that an App runs a hearing test and then sculpts the sound according to one’s needs.  I am not a big lover of cans but this might make...
Oppo UHP 205 Universal Player
I had asked about the Magnetar in the Home Theater section.  Has anyone directly compared it to an Opp?
Magnetar
Cleeds is correct, the Panasonics are not universal players. As I mentioned in the OP, the UI for the Magneton looks so much like the Oppo it begs the question as to whether they just purchased the platform from Oppo

My wife tells me she just read a yahoo feed that the Maine shooter, still at large as I write this, apparently just started using hearing aids prior to then hearing voices.  I can’t wait until a firearm advocacy groups points out that while the ri...
How Has Your Finely Tuned Audiophile Dexterity Helped You in Your "Other" Life?
It sounds like we have the same experiences, @tomcarr .  It’s nice to have a site such as this to virtually meet fellow enthusiasts.
How Has Your Finely Tuned Audiophile Dexterity Helped You in Your "Other" Life?
I have a couple of friends who have had very successful careers as Classical musicians, who could well afford high end gear, and who are perfectly happy with dreck.  They tell me that their brains probably fill in the missing stuff.  So no, @wayto...
21 year old AV receiver - waiting for the end?
Not worth replacing when it does go, but no reason to junk it until then.  If you are worried that there might be a gap of time between when it goes and when you settle on a replacement, you can probably pick up a used AVR of more recent vintage f...
