Favorite Symphonies Quiz Other Composers who exceeded 9 include Havergal Brian, who I think wound up in the thirties but who is best known for his First, the Gothic, which calls for Mahler Eighth like playing forces, and Edmund Rubbra, a very under rated Symphonist well w...
Digital File Playing Sounds like you want a server located elsewhere from the PC, but will it be close enough to the DAC to do a wired connection or will you do WiFi?
Digital File Playing It helps if you specify a budget, before someone recommends a 20,000 dollar device to solve your problems.Otherwise, I am not sure I understand your request. I have played files both from a Windows PC and Macs into a DAC and once you have loaded ...
Music streamers You will get the biggest improvement when you add the DAC. Computer DACs are cheap noisy affairs. Any gains that may make going from a laptop to a dedicated streaming component will be incremental in comparison.
When did you digitize your CDs and LPs? I still haven’t... I think you are done. I use a 2011 MacAir in one on my systems as a streamer, it’s a great use of an aged PC. I would burn the files to hard drive with the PC and play them with the Node2, since you already have it, but if you sour on the Node t...
When did you digitize your CDs and LPs? I still haven’t... OPthere is no reason why you “have” to rip your physical media and play it from a streamer. It isn’t obsolete. I’m not a vinyl guy, but it’s making a comeback, the turntables and amps out there are a huge step better than what you had growing up...
Surround setup problem I think that surround sound, done properly, is a great equalizer financially A mid fi surround system can enhance many recordings, particularly if they were correctly produced with respect to ambience, etc. One doesn't need a megabucks setup to ...
Streaming vs CD transport direct comparison An interesting thread, but hardly conclusive, as perhaps a different CD transport and a different streamer would have yielded outcome, not to mention the small sample of the listening group. Personally, I get better results in my system with a CD...
Is Pentatone Bailing on SACD? .Great news, Soundboy.I do live in Chicago, and have heard Kalmar conduct many times at Grant Park and yes I ma a fan. However, my main interest in this disc was the Piston, of whom I am a great admirer. Piston Symphony recordings are thin on th...
Favorite Symphonies Quiz Why do we stop at 9? That is unfair to someone like Haydn, or Khovahness, or even Leif Segerstram. So I’ll do 10-15.10-Mahler, in the Deryck Cooke completion.11. C.P.E. Bach Wq18212. Haydn13. Mozart14. Weinberg 15. Shostakovich
Digital direction needed Your Oppo might last years. If you like your current setup, relax and listen to music
BlueSound Stinks(!), anyone? I’m listening to Claudio Arrau play Debussy now with my Vault2 streaming files from my NAS, and really for the price it sounds great. However, I wish I could be reimbursed for the 2 Node2s that died on me
External DAC for Cambridge CXN (V2) and Sony XA 5400 ES I have the Sony in my 2 channel system. It is a refugee from a HT system when I had added an Oppo 203 to replace both my BluRay and SACD player. In the 2 channel system my DAC is a Bryston DAC3, which has 4 HDMI inputs. The Sony outputs the DSD...
BlueSound Stinks(!), anyone? I went the whole house route. WiFi was poor from day 1, I eventually Ethernet wired the house and that helped. However, I have had 2 Nodes die on me, and now only use the Vault2 in 1 of my systems. Many problems related to updates. Overall I w...
Tried DSD? I did two downloads from the Pentatone (Classical) label from a different site. The downloads did indeed take forever and then weren’t pristine, with a few brief dropouts. I tried this to compare the same recordings, which I have in SACD. My Op... |
