Low level listening 15 minutes of exposure to 100dB may cause hearing loss. (CDC)
Low level listening @dynamiclinearity No worries and thank you. I agree with you. Hearing loss and tinnitus is a serious and sometimes debilitating problem. I do think it is helpful for those of us with hearing loss and an interest in hifi to protect our hearing...
Low level listening OP your audiogram may provide some insight - for me the loss was 750-4KHz 40-60dB. Basically vowels and made worse by the generally softer female voice. So I flash the report to my wife every once in a while.
Low level listening @thespeakerdude Actually it is physiology not biology. Either way, I'm not disputing your chart. I'm disputing the claim that low levels will "never sound right" (good/enjoyable?) until you get to 100dB. Sounding "right" is subjective and I sp...
Beatles vs. Stones I’m glad we had/have both. I’m a WHO fan as well. I’m going to brag a little (ok a lot), that I got to walk across the famous "zebra crossing" to Abbey Road Studios and spend many hours (and drink a pint or two) inside the studios where the Beatl...
Low level listening @dynamiclinearity Low levels will never sound right as explained by someone earlier our ear frequency response varies with level and bass and treble are softer than middle frequencies until about 100dB The correlation between sounding right a...

One of the great things about Vinyl @oddiofyl I can't believe how good it sounds with the Ortofon 2m Bronze Seems like you have a nice system and TT. The 2M Bronze is holding you back. If your phono stage supports LOMC perhaps step up to a Hana ML. This is exactly what I did (...
Tube DAC (Black Ice) Users - What Streamer Are You Using? @tksteingraber thank you
Tube DAC (Black Ice) Users - What Streamer Are You Using? @tksteingraber Thanks for the insight. The Bricasti looks well built. I'm not interested in ROON and it was unclear on their website if it has native support for streaming services like Qobuz? Does it have it's own controller app and if so, how i...
Thinking about getting some bookshelf/standmount speakers + whatever for Harbeth, I have the 30.2 XDs with a pair of REL subs, love them. The HL5s yogi posted look like a good deal. They are not the best for loud rock though, which is fine for me, rock is not what I sit down and pay attention to, but ev...
Incredible improvement in sound quality @falconquest Thanks for clarifying. There are multiple causes of tinnitus. I have a friend who developed hearing loss and tinnitus after taking an antidepressant - a known side effect. Mine was caused by being too close to a speaker array in a ni...
Zavfino +1 I'm waiting on a reply from Ray and will pass that on. |
