How much hum is normal from a new tube amp
Which amp do you have? If I can ask. Of course - details in my profile but it’s a Rogers High Fidelity EHF-200 MK2. I’ve had it just over 2 months. Very happy. It replaced a Raven Audio Osprey which was fantastic but I wanted more power to driv...
How much hum is normal from a new tube amp
I have a KT150 amp. There is a very faint hum from the amp on start-up, that goes away once it's fully on and warmed up for a few minutes (it has a 2 stage power up process). Otherwise it is really quiet.  I sometimes hear a very faint hum/clicki...
Power cable from wall socket to power strip
But the meaning with a power conditioner is to "clean the power". Right? So how can the power cable to the conditioner matter? Or am I just stupid here? No, you are not stupid, just logical. Why would a manufacturer not build a high quality con...
Power cable from wall socket to power strip
Go to the Nordost website. They have a presentation explaining what they believe is the order of importance of each cable in a system.  Of course they do. It's called marketing. They are VERY good at it.
Power cable from wall socket to power strip
I just removed my isotek evo 3 polaris for a $75 hospital grade power strip and the faint hum in my subs disappeared. The main reason I decided to get rid of it was the blades in the isotek inlets are crap - all the plugs were loose. I'm orderin...
Is it possible a 20 amp outlet can make a big difference in SQ?
@carlsbad2 @steakster Both outlets I used have back wire and side wire options. The back wire option is NOT a spring loaded push in - I read up on this - the spring loaded/quick connect option is not recommended. I did use the back wire connectio...

@lak no worries and thank you!
Is it possible a 20 amp outlet can make a big difference in SQ?
@lak Note you tagged a different AG member...anyway, I don't know what gauge the wiring is. I can only assume the house is wired to code - the majority of the breakers are 20 amp.  @erik_squires this was my understanding but I thought the 20 amp ...
Is it possible a 20 amp outlet can make a big difference in SQ?
@steakster thanks, makes me feel a whole lot better
Is it possible a 20 amp outlet can make a big difference in SQ?
@carlsbad No, I did not change the power cord at the same time. I did not change any of the breaker switches - most are 20 amp. Note I rent the house - I mention that to explain why I wasn’t super familiar with the breaker box. Now that you m...
Best EXTERNAL DAC suggestions
answered in your other thread, but +1 on Black Ice @soix however the stock tubes were just OK - I put NOS Mullard's in almost immediately - they are not cheap but even so still a bargain for how good the sound is.
External DAC?
Sounds like you have the N130. I have the same. I added the LHY linear power supply ($300 including shipping) which make a big difference and then added a tube DAC. Sounds amazing. I use USB to take advantage of the DACs clock. COAX did not sound ...
Add External DAC or Upgrade to a New Streamer / DAC?
@rbstehno  Keep your streamer in a different room and don’t use usb.  What?
DAC Under $3000
I don't have any experience comparing external DACs in my system, but, based on how my set up compares to my analogue source, the Black Ice Tube DAC at $800 + $450 NOS Mullard tubes is really impressive.
