Help with shop set up Everyone has their own idea about audio but here is my suggestion: Buy a pair of horn loaded bar type speakers and attach them to the wall with brackets. No need to get carried away with this if you want to get work done. I happen to have a pair o...
Help? Who is this non-US custom-order spkr mfgr? Perhaps this page will help jog your memory: http://hifi-links.virtualave.net/speakers.html . Can't stand the pop-ups but it has a very comprehensive list.Good luck,Patrick
Are active speakers the best upgrade I'm glad to see this topic is receiving so much attention. Those that are interested should check out these sites: http://www.crossovers.com, http://www.genelec.com and http://www.westlakeaudio.com.This technology may indeed become the driving for...
Are active speakers the best upgrade I recently purchased a used active system (bi-amped with speakers) and can testify that the changes I hear are stunning. The biggest improvement is the entire system is less source-critical. This has allowed me to enjoy much more of my vinyl libra...
Removing fine scratches on tt dustcover Auto supply stores should carry "Mothers" plastic and vinyl polish. My dustcover is nearly 30 years old and looks brand new. This stuff doesn't take much time to apply and buff. The cost is approximately $5 for a lifetime supply.

Klipschorns I agree with Bob. Too many folks have purchased Klipsch speakers because they play loud. Given an excellent source, clean power and proper set-up they sound really good. But then, most speakers will.
Beginner in Vinyl - How far should I go? Respectfully I submit either do it reasonably right or not at all. I doubt I can convince you to spend $1500-2000 for used playback and cleaning equipment for vinyl but that is about what it would take, IMHO. Vinyl that is well cared for does not ...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive? I guess I'm an oddball here. My daily driver is a '78 Chevy short wheel base, two wheel drive pickup street rod. This one has a stroker smallblock chevy (383 cubic inches) with Vortec heads. (451 ft. lbs. of torque @ 3900 rpm and 383 hp @ 5200 rpm...
Have CD Recorders changed your listening habits? They certainly have. I had put all of my purchased cd's in my computer in the mp3 format to "listen while I work". With Winamp using so little system resources I can do anything except video editing while listening to tunes. I purchased a burner f...
Rosemary Clooney / Shirley Horn / Peggy Lee Great thread Sean, I had the pleasure of touring with Peggy Lee in the very early 70's and can only say that "live" she was captivating. One of my favorite live performers from my roady days was J.P. Morgan. (remember The Gong Show??) J.P. perform...
Klipsch Heresy I have a pair of the industrial grade ported heresy's. Give them a great source, clean power and set up properly they sing. I think they are worthy of a decent resale value. Jfrech is right about the cost of a new pair back then.
Naim -- Fatiguing? Sean, My only experience is with my gear. The Hicap is the only piece that uses a 5 pin DIN. I certainly don't claim to be an expert with much in audio but I clearly remember auditioning a 42/Snaps/110 for a week and then the 42.5/Hicap/110 for a ...
Naim -- Fatiguing? Interesting topic. I have a 42.5/Hicap/110 purchased new in the 80's. These pieces have served me well with no problems. Pluses: nearly all sources agree that you don't have to go on the tweak parade with cables because the Naim pieces are as good... |
