Amp will not power off
OP, so you want to try a tube preamp?!  Okay, here is something for you to "chew" on, so to speak...  this Hovland HP-100 is in nice shape it appears; it does not include the phono section though if you need one...   It's here:  https://ww...
Audio research and krell
If you like the idea of older and big powerful amps, on US Audio Mart, there is a fella in the Santa Clara area (CA) selling a pair of Audio Research Ref 600 Mk IIIs in a black finish for $10,000 bucks I think.  That would probably mate up nicely ...
First tubes in 30 years
You used honest to goodness Western Electric 300Bs...  From their website, a matched pair is $1,500 dollars, and you have monos so times two...  Well, good stuff doesn't come inexpensively.  As for selling your Pass XA60.8s, don't do that; those a...
Lamm ML2.2 for Marten Parkers?
These MPs are 93 dB...   Lamm ML2.2’s should work okay on a 93 dB efficient speaker. You won’t be able to shake your fillings loose, but it should play loud enough.  As for actually listening to it, I have not.
Amp will not power off
Time to get something different! I think this would do a nice job in fixing your problem... https://www.georgemeyer-av.com/mark-levinson-no-27-5-dual-monaural-power-amplifier/
integrated amp on a budget
Integrated....  Hmmmmm....  If we're talking used, this (maybe...) The problem with Levinson gear is that it is well known the power supply section in caps and rectifiers will need replacement, and the other caps in the signal path will likel...
amplifier longevity
My Pass Labs Alepth 1.2 Class A monos have two decades on them now. The filtering or power supply caps are the soda can electrolytic type caps; I’ve seen the moniker computer power supply caps used to describe these large caps with terminals on th...
What'd You Get For Xmas?
I got the gift of spending another Christmas with my 83 yo Mom.  My Dad, he is watching from above.  :)
Are tubes psychological?
Yeah, a good tube amp is something else.  It just pulls out the atmospheric, ambient, and most importantly, the 3D musical shape plus the multiple layers locked away in the music.  While my Pass Class A amps sound good, they don't get the natural ...
Can recommend some non-fatigue SMALL bookshelf for near-field listening?
Focal Micro Utopia is THE hot ticket, and just a wonderful little speaker; it would be best to use a tube amp with this or a speaker cable having the character of say Cardas's Golden Reference cable that "rounds" off the treble a bit.  That tweete...
If you have a CD Player, you need to do this periodically...
I use this:
Luxman 509X, 590AXII, or Gryphon Diablo 300 for B&W 802d3
Happy Holidays... "Tube-y" you say... Well then, this for solid state...  This is the Int 250 by Pass Labs.   As for power output, Stereophile reviewed the Int-150 and into 4 ohms, it belted out 284 wpc; based on this, I think it is safe to s...
Analog upgrade
How about this...😁
Guess How Big My Speakers Are
This right here...
How do you get Happy as an Audiophile?
When "I'm there," that's when I'm happy.  That sense was achieved by listening to some astounding Lamm ML-2.2 SET monos; it was pure magic.  Of course I can't afford that, but I can collect enough change between the sofa cushions to buy say a pair...
