Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp?
Both amps are very transparent, both have great bass and excellent highs. Both are very open. Both have wonderful sounding midrange and very palpable and natural. But I find the single-end amp is more focused in the midrange. The push-pull sounds ...
Would You Rather Own A Good SET Amp, Or A Great Push Pull Amp?
I own both types of amps and listen to both types constantly. I have several amplifiers along with speakers In my listening room. When I first began in this hobby, I wished one day I would own a really nice sounding audiophile system. Well, 35 yrs...
Have you reached your end point with this addictive hobby?
I’ve been in the hobby a long time and there are many reasons why people continue upgrading and seem to never be content with where they are at. Everyone is different. Some people believe that the newer components will give them a better sound. So...
I’m considering upgrading my speakers internal wiring

I’m considering upgrading my speakers internal wiring
Hello, I upgraded the internal wiring on my Rogers LS3/5a speakers only because they were very thin small gauge wire. I think it’s only worth changing the wiring if you see it’s not good quality wiring installed.
Can you do anything to make power tubes last longer ?
The only thing that can come to mind about making your power tubes last longer would be to set their bias a little under than the recommendation for the amplifier. This will not hurt the amp or the tubes in any way. The manufacturer has a recommen...
Are EL34 based amps more musical than KT series based ? Or it's purely a matter of design?
Larryi, I’ve heard a lot of those very low watt tubes you’re referring to and came to conclude that they sounded good when matched with the correct speakers but when not matched correctly, they didn’t sound any better than other really good tubes....
Are EL34 based amps more musical than KT series based ? Or it's purely a matter of design?
I’ve been listening to the EL34 tube for over 35 yrs and have compared it to many power tubes. When it comes down to which tube is more musical, the EL34 tube is simply the better tube in my opinion. I own several very expensive tube amplifiers th...

Has anybody heard of the Conrad Johnson Premier 1b
Ralpho isn’t someone you want to get information from.  Reminds me of all the people that put misinformation online. If people don’t know, why don’t they just not comment?             Either way, Conrad Johnson made the Premier 1 amplifi...

Mattw73, great information. I liked your knowledge and experience on various tubes. Sounds like you’ve done a lot of listening to different types as I have. Well I know these things sound crazy but that’s why this is a hobby. I can’t remember all ...
12au7 tube?
I mix match cables and try to use quality cabling. I pretty much don’t use basic cables. I had them in the past, Wireworld, Audio Quest, Cardas, MIT, Tara Labs and so on. I’ve been using newer cables from new companies that sound better to me than...
12au7 tube?
No I do not ever try to match brands of tubes together nor have I ever thought about that neither do I see any benefit to it. Almost all of my equipment is operating with all different brands of tubes. Even though I had Mullard MCI 12ax7’s as inpu...
