Need Tube Preamp Warmth
Thanks for the heads-up Jackmonster, I've made inquiries to the seller. An all-tube preamp of that pedigree would be ideal.Reviews state that it does not have classic tube warmth, but makes each recording sound very natural and lifelike.I also lik...
Need Tube Preamp Warmth
Please don't take offense, but FWIW, sounds like a short term approach and you might be better off figuring out what other component isn't natural enough sounding and making you feel like extra warmth is needed.Sbank, none taken and I'll look into...
Need Tube Preamp Warmth
Thank you, Polk432. A tube amp would provide the most realistic sonics. I ultimately will give tubes a try, but that's for my next generation system. For now I'm very happy with my Sunfire amp, it's got warmth, excellent dynamics, and it's so smoo...
Need Tube Preamp Warmth
Thanks so far. And yes, I want a tube amp to pair with the SS ARC CDP. The ARC CD3 mkII does everything well, but there's no mistaking that it is solid state.A few years back I had a Jolida pre and the sound was wonderful, but it did not have a lo...
Cleaning records. How often really?
Bill, it is my understanding that all records are pressed with a thin coating of a mold release agent applied to the stamper. If the stamper is not so treated, the LP's resist detaching from it after the cooling phase of pressing. This seems to be ...

MRA : Myth or Menace?
Did you inspect the stylus after a few plays of the new LPs?I wonder if there was any residue left in the grooves after being stamped.
I find this so strange
"I don't see ARC deciding to do this on their own."Agreed. I foresee a backlash from their customer base. But that won't make a difference if their goal is to expand into an untapped market.
Looking for integrated better than my Rogue Sphinx
As you know, it all has to do with amp/speaker matching and I don't believe the Sphinx can deliver enough current into a low impedance load.My understanding is that high current amps produce a stable output of power that is coherent across the amp...
I find this so strange
Lostbears, a question for you; I agree with your observations on the new ARC models, (and notice that the "Audio Research" logo is hidden). The ARC REF3 is the classic ARC design and the Reference 5SE still says pure ARC, but a more modern design....
Gene Simmons says the rock business is dead
Very true, Phasecorrect. And since the days of Kiss's large merchandising sales and mega record sales are over, Rock is dead, as far as Gene is concerned. A case of ego and tunnelvision.
What is your favorite Mozart symphony?
I'm glad you mentioned that piece, Tubegroover. May I describe it as "heavenly?"It just might be my favorite Mozart composition of all.
I find this so strange
@ Taters and Jea48...I was making a joke, "World of McIntosh" sounds so cheap, so common. Kind of like "Gary's Auto World," a large car dealership. To Jea48...As you say, it makes sense that Charlie Randall was involved with the name change. IMO, a...
I find this so strange
Jea...just saw your post. Still don't understand the high end profile with the new mass market name.
I find this so strange
Have you seen the website; it's very high-end with a B&M store in Soho, NYC. So can somebody explain the new name to me, it sounds like just the opposite; a Chinese company selling mass market goods. Their marketing strategy seems paradoxical....
