Cardas Golden Presence (speaker cables)
@hifiman5 , thanks for the shout out. I have owned and auditioned many Cardas cables and found that other members have similar findings.
Cardas Golden Presence (speaker cables)
The question is, what are you trying to accomplish? The Cardas would add warmth to your system and less inner detail than Kimber. The imaging would also be more laid-back.  If you are looking for an upgrade using Cardas, one of the cables in the C...
Floor standing speaker isolation advice needed.
It would probably be easier and you'd get better results if you used a Herbies product rather than an unbalanced granite platform.http://herbiesaudiolab.net/spkrfeet.htmI use Decoupling Gliders on my hardwood floor. Heavy brass tip-toes on my spea...

Dont use sorbothane directly underneath the speakers, it will absorb the bass and make it sound muddy and less detailed. You can use the sorbothane under the granite, then try the speakers using their feet or spike them...see which gives you the c...
Cardas Cables
Right. Sorry, I meant Revel. And i updated my post to suggest the Clear line for transparency and dynamics.
Cardas Cables
That’s some fine gear. I know Focals have good high end extension and clarity. The Neutral Reference are very neutral, a different signature than the Cardas house sound, and the Cross are very coloured and warm, lacking detail. The question now is...

@thyname, what speakers are you using? There needs to be synergy between the cables and the speakers.

Check out the Legacy Cables List...http://www.cardas.com/cables.phpSimply put, any cable in the Cross or Golden line are the older versions which have less transparency with more warmth and highs which are not very extended. The Clear line offers ...
Tube temperature for ARC Ref 6
I use Ultra Sonic tube dampers on all the small signal tubes with great results; most noticeable is tighter bass.  The reason not to use dampers on 6550's or other power tubes is to allow the tubes to present harmonics and overtones. New productio...
Vinyl - Hearing The Beginning of the Song One Revolution Earler
More likely it’s Pre-echo. When the lathe cuts a groove very close to the previous groove. You can hear it when there is silence. There can also be bleed through the layers of magnetic tape from the analogue recording days.
which 6sn7 gives the most air??
I've used that Dehavilland/Chimera list as a guide and found the results spot on, although not complete. The VT-231 Tung-Sol, round black plates have it all, air, dynamics, 3D image, and a premium price. As stated above, Sylvanias are neutral with...
New Amps to match up with PSB T3 speakers
It's possible you don't like the sonics of an ICE power amplifier, or it doesn't have good synergy with PSB's. The T3's are listed as 8 ohm speakers but their impedance curve is closer to 4 ohms across the frequency range. You should probably stay...
Is getting a new pre-amp the right upgrade path?
A tube preamp combined with your Rotel amp could add a more organic presentation and a sense of realism.  However, the Prologue Premium preamp would not be a match with your amp.The preamp's output impedance of 2800 ohms is too high for the Rotel'...
Spike feet protectors
Yes.
Spike feet protectors
Herbie's has a return policy. And the Tenderfeet work very well for component isolation; amp, preamp, CD, DAC. Not so much on TT's.
