Take up drums at age 56? @richopp Loved your story. And so true about proper form and strengthening the wrist while practicing rudiments. I was merely extrapolating the fingering concept forgetting that we're dealing with a beginning drummer. Fingering may be a non issu...
Power amps into surge protector/Conditioner or DIRECT to wall? Final verdict? @aberyclark how did you make the decision to go for the Torus TOT MAX? I'm curious, it looks good.
Power amps into surge protector/Conditioner or DIRECT to wall? Final verdict? @aberyclark I don't see any surge protection.
Tube rolling Question I'm using the Tung-Sol Round Plates, 1940s and they are wonderful. But at $275 per tube for low noise low microphonic, it's a major expense.
Tube rolling Question Brent Jessee sells quality NOS vintage tubes. Here is a comprehensive description of the sonic signature of each brand of the 6SN7 tube.http://www.audiotubes.com/6sn7.htmMy recommendation for a new tube roller would be to try RCA. Classic lush son...
Power amps into surge protector/Conditioner or DIRECT to wall? Final verdict? @ebm has provided the best answer. And @falconquest has added another option (depending on your budget). Balanced power and other regenerators provide enough power to accept an amp no problem.Up until now, we have only been speaking about passive ...
Power amps into surge protector/Conditioner or DIRECT to wall? Final verdict? A unit like the Surgex has a lot of circuitry that prevents a clean signal from reaching the components. Compare that to a Furman. A Wiremold power strip has nothing internally to delay or colour the sound.
Power amps into surge protector/Conditioner or DIRECT to wall? Final verdict? there is really no point in plugging amps into surge protection powerstipes, etc since sonics are effected. Best bet is probably make sure equipment is well insuredI didn't mean to make such a blanket statement. A high quality power strip will no...
Power amps into surge protector/Conditioner or DIRECT to wall? Final verdict? How can Erik’s comments be misleading? When I had a power failure due to loss of a transformer outside, the fuses on my DVD and amp blew since they were not protected by surge protectors. Breakers on the service panel tripped, but did not save the...
Power amps into surge protector/Conditioner or DIRECT to wall? Final verdict? Agree with @erik_squires .Let's say we're talking about surge protection power strips and conditioners. PS Audio and the like are power regenerators and are a different animal.Good advice from Erik, you want the breaker on a power strip/ condition...
Confused About Relative Sonic Impact of DAC VS. Transport @stuartk , yes, there is a benefit to isolating digital from analogue. Well done. You probably know that wall-warts are an inferior power supply. They introduce noise into the signal path and have a greater chance of contaminating the power line an...
Confused About Relative Sonic Impact of DAC VS. Transport It seems like you are swapping the S/PDIF coax from transport to Synchromesh. Just for kicks, try replacing the Empirical coax with a quality cable and see how this affects sonics.
Confused About Relative Sonic Impact of DAC VS. Transport @stuartk , a nice system. I agree that since you’re using the Synchromesh and Steve’s cable there shouldn't be any jitter issues. I mentioned it earlier, vibration control is important to the dac and the transport, either with footers or cones in ...
Confused About Relative Sonic Impact of DAC VS. Transport Your Jolida has not been revealing the true recording. It may be introducing noise or jitter, the result may sound like colourations. Each S/PDIF cable will present the sonics differently by their design, build quality and materials used in the cab...
Take up drums at age 56? Robert, that's why I recommend taking lessons. In the OP's case, he should at the very least have some instruction to start him off.I believe he said the music shop offers this. |
