Why do Classical CDs sound less Alive/Real/Present ?
As @elizabeth stated, you shouldn't have to experience sitting in the front row of a symphony recording at home; all instrument sections up front and loud.
Why do Classical CDs sound less Alive/Real/Present ?
@tomcy6 , I agree. See my post for the non-technical explanation of good and bad recording techniques. But I don't see any major labels returning to the purer, more organic way of mic'ing an orchestra. Although some  chamber music and quartets are ...

Thanks, @recluse. There are many good DDD discs, but they weren't produced well in the 1980's. Early digital was pretty terrible for classical music; technology was in its infancy and there was a learning curve for the engineers and producers. Cer...

Or maybe you're not getting proper imaging due to the positioning of your speakers or room treatments. Too much absorbion on the wall behind the speakers will flatten the image, IOW there won't be any 3D presentation.Try moving your speakers forwa...

a lot of instruments going on at one time? It's true, and modern classical production uses multiple microphones that are placed close to the instruments. The result is the entire orchestra recorded at full volume with no sense of space between inst...
To power strip or not
Yes, Naim recommends Wiremold. Available with and without surge protection.I use one and it's well-built and transparent in my system.

Its possible he may be away on a tube buying trip.
Classical, Rock, Jazz etc. are your tastes evolving with time?
I've been listening to 90% classical on my home system and attending the Philadelphia Orchestra performances for a number of years.  Since subscribing to Tidal, then Qobuz, I've been revisiting music from my past Rocker days. This includes all typ...
Yet another Qobuz vs. Tidal debate
@edcyn, could the trouble be caused by your streamer? My dropouts were the fault of the Bluesound software, not Qobuz.
Opinions Golden Sounds DH Cones, I just bought some, they came in today
@paulcreed , I experienced the same faults as you when using the isoacoustics pucks; less air and slower overall. Also lack of transparency.  DH Cones has everything I'm looking for; jump factor is a good term to use. Noticeable on preamp and tube...
Best place to sell high end audio equipment?
@colinmaken I don't know if that's a good offer, but it's based on supply and demand. They're thinking about how fast they will be able to turn around and sell your gear.    That Yamaha 3000 is a very nice amp. You may be able to easily sell it on...

@geoffkait , I'm using the Supers under my tube amp and the improvement in all areas of SQ over the Jumbo is significant.

DH Cones are fantastic. I use them under my tube amp, CD transport, and TT. They should all face down so they drain vibration from the component; I'm using maple platforms under each component. But I guess YMMV.They made my DAC too detailed, so I'...
