Jadis Defy can't sing with super high Fidelity PART 2 The factories were owned by Philips. They were the parent company and manufactured Philips tubes, Miniwatt, Amperex, Radiotechnique, Valvo, and Mullard UK.And a tall bottle tube does not mean it has superior sonics. Short bottle tubes can have eit...
Jadis Defy can't sing with super high Fidelity PART 2 OK, now I'm with you.https://www.ebay.com/c/7017859417You have Miniwatts. I have the Philips 7316 SQ, same as Amperex PQ. These are the premium 12AU7's.You're right, Philips Miniwatts have a great sound and are affordable. I have a pair but they a...
What’s the most badass $2k amp I can get? I saw you were interested in the Aegir on your other thread. Your speakers are fairly demanding. Rated at 8 ohms nominal, impedance does hover around 4ohms at the upper bass to mids. 80W (Aegir) would be the minimum amp to use. Aegir monoblocks s...
Jadis Defy can't sing with super high Fidelity PART 2 You’re using 12AU7’s, so the Philips PQ are ECC82’s and not ECC80, correct?I’m running a pair and they truly are outstanding. FYI, the Philips PQ is the same tube as the Amperex premium; same tooling, same construction, both made in the Heerlen, H...
Jadis Defy can't sing with super high Fidelity PART 2 The first input tube position has the most impact on sonics. The Philips SQ are giving you the magic.
Krell KAS amplifier hum @jea48 is the best there is for troubleshooting hum. You need to follow his instructions to the letter. Remove the power conditioner from the system. You should only have the monoblocks and the preamp hooked up and plugged into wall receptacles.
CD sound quality: original pressings vs regular remaster vs MFSL, etc As @stilljim stated, some of the early US CDs were incorrectly mastered using the RIAA equalization for vinyl records. These CDs were pressed and sold by retailers. I believe these discs were recalled, but in any event, this hurt the public's expe...
Is the source the CD Transport or the DAC? I forgot to add the following to my statement...For these reasons I have found that the digital cable has a great amount of influence on the sonics in a system when all the criteria are achieved in transfering the digital signal.
Is the source the CD Transport or the DAC? IME the digital cable has greater impact on sound. I’ll speak to the use of S/PDIF coax. I have owned or auditioned too many cables to count and the sonics of the cable can vary greatly compared to an analogue cable downstream of the DAC. There ar...
CD sound quality: original pressings vs regular remaster vs MFSL, etc Agree with @duckworp. After hearing some terribly compressed rock CDs on my home system, I set out to find the best quality releases of my favorite rock bands.I listen mainly to classical and the quality of Redbook sounds so good thru my system, I...
PrimaLuna Dialogue Preamp = emotionless? My take on "emotionless" is different than johnss. being emotionless, am assuming you want more of that CJ warmth from the earlier CJ gear.If you are looking for warmth, then keep the Mullards and use rectifiers that are more lively and provide mo...
CD sound quality: original pressings vs regular remaster vs MFSL, etc +1 @georgehifi . I do the same thing. And like @falconquest i Google Steve Hoffman to find a recommendation.
PrimaLuna Dialogue Preamp = emotionless? I’m not a PL owner but have owned many tube preamps. I highly recommend NOS Tung Sol rectifiers for a deep bottom end. For a dynamic, lively presentation 1950s Amperex Holland Bugle Boys are an affordable alternative to the 7316 tube.
Should Subwoofer Be Plugged Into Same Circuit? In addition, @almarg correct me if I'm wrong, one of the receptacles needs to be grounded to the service panel, not self grounded. If there are two separate runs of Romex, then both need to be grounded to the panel to help prevent a ground-loop. ...
Should Subwoofer Be Plugged Into Same Circuit? I remember you had a thread asking about power conditioners. Most conditioners limit current and an amp draws the highest current of all your components. That's why typically sources are plugged into the PC and amp is plugged into the wall. With a... |
