CD Mats -- do they work? Are they dangerous?
I had a De Mat once upon a time. I found it did make a difference - and not a subtle one (relatively speaking, of course).Bass tightened up and seemed to go a tad lower. A better sense of space around individual instruments/ sounds was provided (b...
Atth: Rega Ara owners
For the moment, i will only be upgrading one component; either the speakers or the cd player. At this point, i'm leaning much more towards speakers, as i believe it will be the more noticeable improvement (not downplaying the validity of a strong ...

Heya Rich:I've read the Audioreview posts regarding the Sugden... Most are referring to earlier models than the one i currently own. My synopsis, based on pairing the sugden A48B w/ several speaker brands: Warm, full sound. Good bass. Very nice mi...

Hi Rich,Your thoughts and opinions of the Aras are really helping me quite a bit, here, i must say (and obviously very appreciated). For the price i paid for the Aras, i really could not have done any better - not a chance in hell. I paid $175 CAD...
Hearing Aids?
i really should try to sway my father to actually wear his hearing aid devices. He spent over 4k on the pair, yet is so bloody stubborn... not to mention, my mother tells me that every two seconds, he's saying 'huh? what? pardon?' to her (and it's...
Hearing Aids?
call me naive or whatever you will, but i'm wondering...for those who do wearing hearing aids, how do you feel the sound compares to when you had your 'normal' hearing (addressing those, of course, who have lost their hearing 'somewhere along the ...

Rich, I drive them w/ a modified sugden A48b with a rotel 971 cd player. MIT interconnects (for now) and Ecosse speaker cables. There is also an inexpensive Energy sub in the picture, but it's not always being put to use. I have it connected via s...
Weak Link
Cerrot, did you mean Totem Rainmakers or Totem Forests? Must be the Rainmakers, based on the price you mentioned. (although i do like the name 'Rain Forest' for some reason lol)

No ARA owners out there?
Weak Link
Almarg, I suspect you're mostly correct in that i simply need more capable speakers. I may try to find a used pair of GR10's or even GS10s, if possible without breaking the bank. I wonder if Epos M12.2's would get me there, at less of a cost... Pe...
Weak Link
follow-up:I've tried several types of speaker cable at this point and the ones that work best are the ecosse, which seem to tighten things up and make the higher frequencies more extended.I also do own a sub, albeit an inexpensive one as well. I'v...
buzzing from speakers
well, since my initial post, I've disconnected the cable box, which made no difference. Following that, i disconnected speaker cables (and actually introduced others that I had lying around), attempted to isolate the speaker cable as best i could,...
How to hook up 2 amps from one set of pre outs?
regarding what SNS said, I have heard the same. I was in a similar situation at one point and every knowledgable person I asked told me splitting the pre-out was a no-no.Just my 2cents.
How to hook up 2 amps from one set of pre outs?
Why not run the sub w/ speaker cable instead of rca?Not sure if your amp has two sets of binding posts, but if it does not, simply run two sets of speaker cable... One set going to the mains, the other set going to the sub. This way, you do not ha...
buzzing from speakers
you know, I just might have something from the cable box still connected...I'm going to disconnect it when i get home after work and report back. (I've had this problem in the past at my old place...for some reason, i didn't think of it this time)...
