Best 2 channel music quality on a 5.1 home theater AVR @tksteingraber i had a similar experience--for two channel music, my 15-year old pioneer elite avr is an overacheiver which trumped the denon, integra, etc. i’ve cycled through. its only downside is that it doesn’t have hdmi arc function, so my wi...
Whats on your turntable tonight? jacobites, robespierre's velvet basement--hadn't listened to this in a long while, but it's something of a classic, with that shambolic loose feel you can't fake graham parker, another gray area--he's a surly guy who screwed himself commercially ...
Need advice on what to purchase to hold 1TB of music and connect to my new Innuos Pulsar. i learned the hard way not to cheap out on a hard drive when i lost almost 2tb of hi-quality files stored on a generic ssd. my tech guy said to use only samsung and that even the better known wd and sandisk drives are prone to failure.
Whats on your turntable tonight? love tractor, this ain't no outer space ship--i remember them mostly as a sort of ambient guitar instrumental band, but this one is more songful than you'd expect swimming pool q's, s/t--another athens band; glossier and more new-wavy than my usu...
Best 2 channel music quality on a 5.1 home theater AVR i agree with carlsbad--i'd keep your onkyo (which is just fine for movies) and add a two-channel amp for your fronts--i like parasound or acurus, but there's lots of choices. buy used and you can spend the savings on upgrading your speakers.
Time to upgrade AV Receiver +1 soix. i've owned both anthem and arcam, as well as numerous mass market avrs and anthem sounds the most hi-fi of the bunch (although tbh some of the current denon and yamaha stuff sounds pretty good to my ears)
Whats on your turntable tonight? @slaw good call on the eyelids--in a parallel universe they’d be bigger than the beatles) @bslon ever notice how good the only ones’ guitarist is? today’s picks: corey hanson, pale horse rider--a bit more restrained than my usual, but he’s a v...
Whats on your turntable tonight? here's a record so obscure that even @bslon has (probably) never heard of it--the sponsors, "sponsors". angsty sorta power pop, with terse, fantastic songs. from the tiny bit i've found on the web, they were from nyc and made only this one album; ...
Anyone familiar with Onix amplifier? i'm using an onix a150 in my office system and i like it just fine--very powerful, reliable and free from glare. soundwise, i'd liken it to nad or marantz--sorta tubey and analogue sounding, but also detailed--i prefer it to the rotel and arcam wh...
Whats on your turntable tonight? @bslon i'm not a big joe jackson guy (he's a vg musician but a lousy singer), but "big world" is one of the best-sounding recordings you'll hear. also the rare live album which has only new songs (jackson browne's is the only other one to come to ...
Whats on your turntable tonight? @willkimbrough, coincidentally i was listening to sandanista the other day--it’s a lot to wade through but i think it’s unfairly maligned, with fully 75% of it being close-to-genius, albeit in a drugged out way. you also prompted me to revisit "fu...
Are Buchardt A500 Signature Edition A Good Choice For First Speakers? i've only heard the passive s400, which are vg, but based on features/specs $4k doesn't seem like a bad deal for the a500, considering you get a full range speaker, amp, wifi streamer and dac in one package. i would be curious to hear how these co...
What does Nominal Impedance mean? Almarg was awesome. RIP.
Want Multi-Disc CD Player Recommendations +1 the integra cdc 3.4--i've owned lots of multidisc changers (rotel, sony, yam, arcam, denon) and the integra has been the most reliable--nice quiet mechanism and pretty good sounding
SPDIF splitter just look up spdif splitter on amazon--they have numerous choices from ten bucks on up--you can return it if it doesn't work well |
