shy about prices
@grislybutter Yes I get that. Frustrating for us both, as we cannot control the dealers or tell them what to do. We can only give them an opportunity-some take it and some dont. The internet business is a completely different thing to the local...
shy about prices
@grislybutter I actually couldn't agree more about how it looks from your side. Its something we have wrestled with and asked ourselves what the right thing is. I think we are going to work on adding prices to our lone mountain site as the need ...
shy about prices
I think there is a lot of misinformation in this thread and it's only just started!    It's clear a lot of people feel factories are just trying to rip everyone off.  My experience having worked for quite a few of them is that there are some peopl...
Piano black polish and refinish
I know the ATC piano black- which has 10 hand done coats of clear coat over black is pretty easy to maintain over time. It tends to show micro scratches, but are easy to buff out. Those 10 coats give you a pretty thick layer of laquer to work with...
how many ways to hook up a subwoofer
I sure don't want to argue with @ellajeanelle, as obviously is a nice person, but I am involved with pro and consumer both and I cannot figure out what you are talking about with "voicing" of speaker outs vs line level (-10 RCA) or pro level (+4 b...
Piano black polish and refinish
I can't think of a more difficult color to match than black.   The good news is that in the hands of proper cabinet maker, gloss black with lots of coats of lacquer/polyurethane etc, is easier to repair than satin.  BUT it also easier to screw up...
ATC SCM40
@viethluu -glad you own ATC, but if you consider having a wide dynamic capability "sucking power" I guess you could say that?  Most of them will play a good deal louder at lower distortion than other speakers of similar size (which is what makes t...
I Was Considering Active, Then I Watched This ...
There are many sceanrios where a listener could not tell there were changes to a system.  Of course that does not mean there isnt a difference or it isnt a desireable difference.  Much like swapping out phono cartridges, if you walked out of the r...
ATC SCM40
@soix There are two versions of the mid driver, the "normal" one in the 40 and the pro 25 and pro 45. Then there is the "S" version (for super dome), which is in everything else (50 on up). I remember when I was first getting to know these parts...
I Was Considering Active, Then I Watched This ...
@erik_squires You make perhaps the single most powerful point in the active vs passive argument: does anyone care? For many, flying blind, going by other peoples opinions and the power of brand marketing is too powerful a set of conditions to ov...
ATC SCM40
@steve59  With all due respect,  I work with ATC so I am terribly biased in their favor, but I have worked in the speaker industry for 40 years with many different manufacturers including those with large engineering departments (such as JBL).  I ...
can subwoofers make things worse?
Small rooms are always the source of the a lot of issues, as the bass wavelengths are longer than the room itself.  So is also our visually driven tendency to want to put a sub in a symmetrical location- half way between our mains for example. So...
My speaker upgrade journey - and a few questions
@cdc This is the biggest issue with demos, trying to [sonically] relate one space to another when you really cannot.
My speaker upgrade journey - and a few questions
@cdc  I know its not about baffles or or square boxes.  100s sound very open in a proper environment.  Was the room small?  Its the room Im guessing.
My speaker upgrade journey - and a few questions
@cdc  Yes I am the importer for ATC pro and consumer and have been for 20+ years.  Worked for JBL and EV before that and repped many high end consumer lines going back to the 80s including Dahlquist Genelec any several more.  I dearly love hi fi ...
