Upgrade phono stage?
I suspect your cartridges are the weak link. I haven't heard the Grado Gold, but if you are in love with the Grado sound, I had a Sonata, which was pretty good and would fit in your budget - you might even do better and get a used Master. I upgrad...
Where are the female Audiophiles?
Different wiring, plumbing and priorities.
more copyright nonsense
The Digitial Millenium Copyright Act was one of the worst laws ever passed in our country. This is more of the same. Congress has lost sight of the true purposes of copyright laws (encouraging innovation by granting creators exclusive rights for a...
How can I transfer my records to cd? Best quality
You need a good D/A converter; I use an M-Audio Delta 1010. The one in your computer hardly qualifies. You also need decent mastering software. I have used Wavelab (about $500, I guess), which has most of the necessary tools, but is very hard to l...
Your favorite classical/flamengo guitar CDs
real flamenco is very different from Nuevo Flamenco a la Jesse Cook, and you may find it irritating if you don't care for the stomping and singing. Ottmar Liebert is a pale imitation at best. Good list, Gypsykings.
Tube Amp. Power ratings
given a reasonable speaker match, to my ears push-pull tube amps sound much more powerful than ss of the same ratings, partly because the distortion artifacts from tubes are more benign than from ss. I moved to tubes when I realized I had lost int...
what causes sibilance?
thanks for the reponses. will try vta adjustment and re-rinsing. The cd version doesn't have any sibilance to speak of. It's probably not just this record, I only recently started cleaning them adequately.
Discounts vs. Agon listings
If you account for the risk involved in buying from an unknown seller, unknown damage, shipping damage from amateur packing, and lack of a warranty, a used table really isn't "discounted" at all, particularly on the Gon where asking prices are usu...
Audiophile TT article in Forbes
If this deduction were allowed as a business expense, all similarly situated reviewers could deduct or depreciate their "reference" capital equipment. Hard to imagine this being acceptable to the IRS. "full time" probably does not matter if it mee...
What is this ARM?
The glass base it sits on says, “Premier Oracle Reference BRAS Pierre Lurne”. “Bras” is French for “arm”, so is it a “Pierre Lurne” tonearm?
Does an integrated DAC/Headphone amp exist?

Vibration Isolation for Rega P3
I use a Bright Star audio base which contains sand. Works very well. For a footfall problem (back when it was on a stand on a suspended wood floor) I also used the Br. St. base which contains an air bladder, which eliminated that problem. These pr...
digital cable vs. satellite standard definition
If you are watching tv via a dvr, with a cable company dvr, they compress the signal more as the disc fills up, so video quality goes down. with a directv/TIVO box there is only one quality (best).
listening to music in the car
With The factory stereo in my Lexus (made by Pioneer) I am able to hear instruments and voices and often understand lyrics I have never been able to hear on my home stereo (which is not bad, tubes in the preamp and amp). I have suspected that the ...
