could a different power cord cure sibilance? Thanks for all the advice. I think Tvad is correct, the new pre revealed pre-existing flaws, particularly in certain recordings; no doubt Mechans is correct that in the end, a Steelhead or something equally adjustable will be required. I am using ...
How effective is the Onzow Zerodust? thanks for asking this, I was considering the zerodust after Disc Doctor liquid dissolved the finish on the front of my Grado wood-bodied cartridge.
Audio Research SP 11 vs Audio Research SP 16 The SP16 is AR's entry level unit.
could a different power cord cure sibilance? Thanks, I will try all of these suggestions. I use a Mint fof alignment, but loading and VTA are still mysteries to me.
Grado The Reference 600 hrs old. How many more? At a guess, your cartridge is still young, not really much beyond "broken in". I have read claims by Grado of "5000 + hours". Why they should be so long-lived is not clear. Nice cartridges, but I personally would not believe any Grado claims, base...
question about speaker placement. dead end room? get a tube or class A amp. You won't need the fireplace in the winter and can reorient the listening position.
How to Increase Turntable Height on High WAF Rack As suggested above, you will almost certainly need some kind of isolation from a Bags rack. I use a sandbox (made by BrightStar, on a Bags rack) which is cost effective and works reasonbly well, but only raises the height 1 5/8".
CD Recorder :Fostex or Tascam? If you go this route, you will be unhappy with the results, sooner or later. As Macdadtexas suggests, archive to computer at a higher resolution (so you don't lose all the advantages of lp's), print cd's as needed and be ready for a digital server...
Pro-ject Debut 3 problem with unbalanced sound I agree with all the comments above, but would add that if they couldn't even get the anti-skate right, be suspicious of the cartridge alignment, too, which can contribute to imbalance.
Joule LA100 MKIII or Granite Audio 770FP or Modwrt Numbdiver, you do know that Mesa always recommended a passive pre for the Baron? A few Goners have raved about that combo (not enough gain from my phone pre for me to use one, unfortunately.) I agree with Spencer, and would not seek tubey colorati...
Lyra Helikon vs Skala Agree with Syntax, that phono stage is not in the ballpark with the rest of your gear.
Do you plan to buy The Beatles CD remasters? When I have money to burn, and no other records I want. It's another matter if they are ever released on vinyl. I'm not sure I see the point, on RBCD.
Top notch speakers with their own sub Can the MTS be surpassed, even today? Its technology is far from outdated, its form factor is supreme (it takes up less horizontal space than a monitor) it is relatively efficient (allowing wide latitude in choice of amps) and its high powered, RA...
What Printed Magazine do you prefer? Their best offer for Stereophile renewal gets down to about $11 a year. I think you can afford to keep it for the occasional interesting article or opinion.
SS Preamp with Tube Amp? Every once in a while I try various combinations of tube/ss electronics, and enjoy whatever benefit it brings to the table. I always gravitate back to all tubes. There's a reason you almost never hear of a tube lover going back to ss, for sonic re... |
