RMAF 2009 Analog Report + Meet and Greet
I decided to go to Hershey this weekend instead, for the auto show and because I can drive there and back home on the same day and not have to stay in a hotel. Both hobbies tickle the same set of pleasure responses in me.
RMAF 2009 Analog Report + Meet and Greet
There certainly is not much expression of elation or enthusiasm regarding the RMAF, either here or over at VA. I guess the vinyl gods were at rest, pretty much.

Were any of the following turntables or brands of turntables on display or on demo?:Saskia, Spiral Groove, EAR, Transrotor, Caliburn, Grand Prix Monaco, direct-drive Teres, Thorens Reference, or any other true exotics. Any vintage tts in modified ...
Interconnects under $100 RCA for phono to preamp
The Anti-Cables from Speltz are always a good bet. But the cheapest deal would be to buy some connectors and make your own using very thin gauge (28AWG or higher) magnet wire from Radio Shack. You probably can get away for $50 or less if you have ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dgob et al, Please, please let us not let this thread degenerate into a tubes vs solid state argument. Your statement to the effect that tubes "focus" on third order harmonic distortion is, to be polite, inaccurate on all levels. But I defend and ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
This must have been in the early 70s, so whatever was available at that time (version I, II, or III) would have been the one I "exported" to London. (The business was Audio T; does it still exist?) Owner was a nice guy and very pleased to get the ...
How to convert VPI turntable to banlanced?
Seamaster, Do you own a balanced phono stage? If not, don't bother with the rest of it. You will gain nothing but complexity. See my post above. Your cartridge is an inherently balanced source, but it doesn't know or care whether it is driving a s...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Axel, In order to audition my "collection" of MMs, I actually bought a used Ayre p5Xe, which as you know is a good solid state unit with adjustable gain down to 50db in balanced mode. My main phono stage is a tube-based, balanced Atma-sphere MP1 p...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul, I commend you for the guts it takes to say that when you are a manufacturer of a high end product that has as one of its principle selling points a sterling MC phono section. I know the Phonolinepreamp also has a superb and totally independe...
Graham Phantom II + Dynavector XV1's need help
This won't cure your main problem of channel imbalance, but I think you also said you have more crosstalk from on one side vs the other. It could be that when you played with azimuth in order to try to cure your channel imbalance, you threw it out...
SP10 Mk II vs Mk III
The diodes are by and large Germanium types. No one uses those any more except in special applications. They have a low forward voltage drop, compared to some other even more modern types, so probably they should not be "updated" indiscriminately....
SP10 Mk II vs Mk III
How about 1 pF?
SP10 Mk II vs Mk III
Sorry, Lonestar, I thought you needed a copy yourself. I have one already that I bought from Soundfountain. (So it is not in e-format, only a hard copy. Soundfountain sends hard copies from Germany.) Thank you for your kind offer, however.
SP10 Mk II vs Mk III
I am not certain whether it is available as a "free" download, but you can buy it for a very reasonable sum at Soundfountain. Look in the SP10 section. The Owner's Manual of course can be downloaded at Vinyl Engine.
SP10 Mk II vs Mk III
Are you certain this is a list of electrolytic caps, or is it a list of ALL caps used of any type? For example, I find it hard to believe that they used a 1 pF (that's picofarad) electrolytic. That's a teeny tiny value. Even the 1uF caps are likel...
