Why Would a Turntable Need More than 1 Arm ? Why would a turntable need more than one arm? A turntable is an inanimate object that has no emotions whatever. It does not "need" anything. The owner of said turntable may have any one or two of several reasons for wanting to mount more than one ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Raul, I have never heard your speakers, of course, but they are so different in every way from a Sound Lab ESL that I am very surprised to learn there is a similarity in sound. Re solid state amplifiers: I have been involved in an extensive revisi...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Raul, Apropos of your remarks about system differences, I know full well that I have all my audio life been aiming for the accurate reproduction of Jazz, to include especially vocalists, small combos, and big bands. I never think twice about opera...
A Copernican View of the Turntable System By the way, in the real world there is no such thing as "complete (mechanical) isolation", which is why I take the position that I take.
A Copernican View of the Turntable System Of course, to chauffeur Garrett Morris' and the baby's relief, the rabbi was successful. I guess I will go back to maintaining radio silence. We now return you to our regular programming.
A Copernican View of the Turntable System Dgob, Decouple all that you want. My point was or would have been that it is perhaps not wise to use very different mounting systems for the tt and arm pod, e.g., spikes on one and AT feet on the other. In that situation, the two separate devices ...
A Copernican View of the Turntable System Dear Henry, We agree on something! That's exactly what I was trying to imply to Dgob without being annoying.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Dlaloum touches on an interesting point that I had never fully appreciated but is obvious. In an MM cartridge, the coils reside in the cartridge body and stay with that body no matter what stylus "upgrade" one might employ. Therefore, would it not...
Records weights or pucks -heavy or light? This is purely a matter of personal taste plus what your turntable bearing and motor can take without undue wear and speed instability. I have owned belt-, direct- and idler-drive tts. I personally do not like heavy center weights on any of them.
A Copernican View of the Turntable System Dgob, Do you have your arm pod on the spikes and your tt on AT feet? If so....
Building high-end 'tables cheap at Home Despot II Fourth and probably most obvious source of vibration of the idler wheel: Deviation of the idler wheel from perfect round-ness and roughness at its contact surface. The spring or string may or may not be the major player in maintaining contact amon...
Building high-end 'tables cheap at Home Despot II I certainly would not want to argue the question of whether this new mod actually improves sound quality, which it may well do, but on the level of theory, I have a question: Why would one expect the string not to transmit vibration, as compared t...
My Turntable Collection..... Morgenholz, I tend to agree with you that the Kenwoods are overlooked and under-appreciated. I think it's the coreless, slotless motors plus the clever and rather unique way that the servo drive system is engineered that makes them special. Have y...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? I am happy with the elastic band. I don't think twice about it. But I suppose silicon adhesive would work, albeit it would leave a permanent mess that a putative next owner might not like. If someone wants to try it, I would love to hear about it....
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Elastic band is better because it is easily reversible and because it applies a steady pressure on the junction between cartridge body and stylus, whereas with tape I am not sure I could do it. There would be too much danger of fouling the stylus.... |
