Can you believe this?
Dear Harold, Life is priceless with or without a turntable. If you have evidence to the contrary, please let me know. Glad you're happy.
Setting Azimuth
Dear Brian,Doug Deacon and I agree: Azimuth does not have much effect on channel balance. But I am just a shlub. Don't take my word for it, although I did experiment with this just to prove to myself that it is true. Using the suitable test track ...
Lenco Lamp Replacement Bulb
Find some sort of part number or similar type marking on the bulb and use it to do a Google search. Using the brand name in your search may help as well. I predict you will find a replacement bulb, but if you don't, forgeddaboudit.
Setting Azimuth
I recall looking at the display on your computer and seeing how adjusting azimuth affected the relative phase of the two channels. I know you prefer to say that adjusting azimuth affects phasing. Most of us do not have the equipment to monitor pha...
Setting Azimuth
Wow! You got a lot of response in a short time. I am too lazy to read them all, but the answer, as far as I am concerned, is that azimuth is NOT a way to change channel balance, if you are talking about the output of each channel. Azimuth has very...
Eminent Technology ET-2 Tonearm Owners
Frogman and other SL tonearm devotee's: I would think you are defeating one of the prime advantages of an SL tonearm by deliberately setting the stylus so that it is not on the radius of the LP (a line from the outer edge through the center of the...
Can you believe this?
I would like to know more about the Phase Linear turntable; I was not aware that they ever made one. (Chances are, it's a re-branded product made in Japan for Phase Linear. It might even be a Micro Seiki, since they did a lot of work for other com...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dear Raul, You really ought to work on how you relate to others. Because you hear things differently from me or anyone else does not mean that the other guy's system is somehow inferior to yours. I take your point that the DV505 may interact diffe...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Nicola, To quote myself, "OK, so I will try to say what I meant by referring to the Acutex LPM320 as "clinical", only in comparison to the Grace Ruby and Stanton 980LZS: The latter two cartridges give me more information about the ambience of the ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Guess I'd better break out my 420STR. I think what you are calling "dark" in the Stanton sound is what I call "rich" (in ambient details). Also, the SP10 Mk3 probably slightly brightens up the Stanton, compared to a belt-drive.
Linear tracking vs. Pivoted tracking tone arms.
Oh, I'm not arguing against SL tonearms as regards geometry. That would be illogical. I admit I am just too lazy to mess with one. So much else in my audio system requires regular care, and then there is my penchant for tweaking. Sometimes I just ...
Linear tracking vs. Pivoted tracking tone arms.
Dave, I had not seen those data from John Ellison. Thanks for the URL. Actually, given the premise that one cannot "hear" tracking angle error; one can only hear tracking distortion, I find it surprising in fact that there is so little difference ...
Linear tracking vs. Pivoted tracking tone arms.
Dover, I do think Tony has a point about mating an air-bearing tonearm with a spring-suspended turntable. I think I have read elsewhere that such a pairing can cause problems. Especially I was dubious how a Linn LP12 would mate up with the ET2. (S...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dear Dover, I agree with you about expressing one's opinion so that others might benefit, but it is rare to find a reviewer, here or in the audio press, who is up to the task. To do it well requires a lot of time and thought. Very few guys get it ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul, All hypotheses about why one cartridge sounds different from another, based on one man's opinion, are possible. So your idea about why I might prefer both the Grace and the Stanton to the Acutex is not for me to challenge, but I don't want t...
