When a Reviewer "likes" something
Syntax asks some good questions. The way I see it, Gordon Holt and later Harry Pearson were both very sincere observers of what Harry first called "the high end". I don't believe either of them had a commercial bias, and Gordon Holt got in trouble...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dear Raul, I was reading above your remarks about the B&O MMC1 and 2. I own an MMC1. I am deep in thought about ways in which to strengthen its structure, especially when used in a conventional headshell. I think we are only able retrieve 60% ...
Walker Audio Proscenium Black Diamond V
I am curious to know the cost of the upgrade. However, it is none of my business, if you do not care to disclose the amount.
Brinkmann TT with an SME arm - any experiences?
If you have a cartridge that works "perfectly" with an SME V, then by all means use an SME V. The tonearm/cartridge match is far more critical than the tonearm/turntable match.
TT stopping in midstream of playback? Perplexed.
If I understand this correctly, your turntable is behaving much like a computer that momentarily loses power; it shuts down and does not come back up after AC power is restored until you hit the "on" switch. Thus I bet you have an intermittent ope...
Zero Antiskate vs Stylus Wear
Zen, Wait to you see a wheel. Now THAT's something amazing!
Technics SP-10 mkII speed adjustment question
Ken, Can you describe the remainder of your audio system? Albert mentioned above that you own a very high quality set-up, from front to back. Thx.
Zero Antiskate vs Stylus Wear
To complete Raul's explanation, when the distance from the tonearm pivot to the stylus tip (P2T) exceeds the distance from the tonearm pivot to the center of the spindle (P2S), as is the recommended motif for nearly all pivoted tonearms, then you ...
Allnic Puritas vs. Koetsu Stone Body
Dear Lotus, I am not sure what you don't agree with. If you mean to say that you don't agree that the Reed 3P when mated with the Puritas can often result in sibilance, then I of course yield to your superior experience with that combo, of which I...
Fidelity Research FR64 Black Limited Edition
Voraratc, The "S" not only does not stand for "steel", it also does not stand for "Silver". Most of the silver-wired FR64Ss with which I am familiar have a decal on the arm tube that says "Silver inside", or similar words. (Mine does.) Other than ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
One hour of Wagner would do it for me. Also, 15 minutes of Rap. I am weaker.
Zero Antiskate vs Stylus Wear
John, You are the first guy who has agreed with me on this. Last year, I decided to ignore the most common explanation for skating force (as related to headshell offset angle) and re-think it from scratch. What I posted above is what I came up wit...
A Copernican View of the Turntable System
To be precise: "Rumors of my death are exaggerated."Henry, I may start calling you "Hank".
Zero Antiskate vs Stylus Wear
Nick, But consider this: if a straight tonearm (no headshell offset) is set up such that there is any amount of overhang (meaning stylus tip overhangs the spindle, as is typical for all conventional tonearms), then the stylus can never be tangent ...
Allnic Puritas vs. Koetsu Stone Body
All good points. I am sure David has done much more work on this subject than I. I would only comment that the etiology of "sibilance" is one of the most vexing among problems that occur in vinyl audio reproduction. (Meaning, there are many causes...
