Technics SL1000 MK3 (SP10 MK3) performance/value VS modern turntables? In Miami, you can get the best rum from Cuba, easily.I view JP as something of a genius with direct drive. He fixed my TT101 after several very smart and competent persons had tried and failed over a period of 2 years. And I am pretty sure that mi...
Life After Technics SL1200 Mk5 What is it that your Wife does not Accept? The mods under discussion would not even be visually detectable even by most audiophiles.
Who needs a Diamond Cantilever...? 💍 Short cantilever means the arc traversed by the stylus in response to the groove is shorter than with a longer cantilever, which means the net coil or magnet velocity is reduced for a given deflection of the stylus, which means a proportionate red...
LYRA DELOS CARTRIDGE TOO BRIGHT, THIN AND SHRILL SOUNDING It IS possible that Jeff has been out in the Las Vegas heat for far too long, thus frying his brain and making him cranky. Jeff, apologize to Atmasphere. He is too good for you, and you don't know what you are talking about if you criticize his ...
Step up transformer or upgrade phono preamp? I did a little homework, reluctantly. Your phono stage provides 40db of gain in MM mode and 60db of gain in MC mode. You would need to use the MM inputs with an external SUT. That means you would need a SUT with a turns ratio of 1:10, just to ge...
Step up transformer or upgrade phono preamp? Let me guess what is going on here. In actual listening, you have no problem with gain. Isn’t that correct? But apparently you looked at some chart or read someone else’s opinion and decided that you must need more gain, that that must be the prob...
LYRA DELOS CARTRIDGE TOO BRIGHT, THIN AND SHRILL SOUNDING Can we keep the old, boring, and endless MC vs MM/MI debate out of this thread, 3 easy? There does seem to be a consensus already that the OP’s experience with the Delos cartridge is very atypical and that he might want to consider having the cartr...
Step up transformer or upgrade phono preamp? You guys are profligate spenders of other people’s money. Assume the OP likes his cartridge. He also says his problem is not lack of gain. He’s looking for a a phono stage upgrade. Trot out the usual suspects that have sufficient gain for his car...
Step up transformer or upgrade phono preamp? Ironically, the Allnic 1202 comes by its high gain via a complex built-in SUT system. Not that there's anything wrong with that but it does beg the question of recommending a high gain phono stage.
KAB RF-1 subsonic filter It should go between your preamplifier or linestage and the amplifier(s). I took a quick look at a photo on-line. Looks like you have a pair of female RCA inputs at one end and another pair of RCA jacks for output, at the other end. Unfortunate...
LYRA DELOS CARTRIDGE TOO BRIGHT, THIN AND SHRILL SOUNDING Jeff, Tube phono stages per se do not "roll off" highs. Perhaps a tube phono stage may have an audio bandwidth out to 100kHz. Whereas a solid state equivalent might go out even farther, but you are not going to hear that particular difference. ...
Phono cartridge torque wrench A 4-foot torque lever should be fine for cartridge screws, I would think. Get a friend to help you tug on it.
Channel D Lino C vs. Sutherland Little Loco Perhaps my memory if faulty, but I found one or two on Hi-Fi Shark for about $1500, but without Humpty.
Channel D Lino C vs. Sutherland Little Loco Chakster. 4712 is no longer for sale. Not too hard to find on the second-hand market, if one is patient. Not cheap either, once you add Humpties.
Turntable Resonance Fix I started looking at the Townshend Pods, too. Problem is cost, not much less than a good used Minus K shelf, for a Pod suitable in size and weight bearing capacity to suit one of my heavy turntables (typically 60 lbs and up). |
