Reed 5T Opinions
"Normally this friction just generates heat." ...and the skating force in a conventional pivoted tonearm. The term "zenith" seems to have been re-invented for our particular obsession.  If you look it up, there is no dictionary definition that fi...
How do you arrange the order of your records?
This will be a long thread and will rapidly become repetitious.  Like others, I organize by genre first and then alphabetically according to musician, if jazz, R&B, or other.  If Classical, by composer.  If movie sound track, by movie title.
Who Is An Expert On Acutex Cartridges?
Max, if you are asking me about low riding, mine never was and is not a low rider.  What I said was that I had inadvertently adjusted VTA such that it was "higher in back" or tipped up with respect to the pivot.  Leveling it did improve the bass i...
tone arm with 10gr mass with 15 gram weight cartridge?
This is my last attempt to advise, Just do it.
Amazing Cartridge Repairs by Vinyl Audio Science!
You lost me at why you are averse to having a cartridge repaired in the UK, except for the new economic disconnect between the UK and EU. Doesn’t the same apply to doing business in the US? Also is there evidence that other repairers in the US  or...
tone arm with 10gr mass with 15 gram weight cartridge?

At33ptg II perfect straight out the box
Sandthemail, Do you own a linestage?  Does it add gain?  What is the input sensitivity of your amplifiers (the amount of signal voltage needed to drive them to full output)?  All these factors and others, like the sensitivity of your spkrs, contri...
tone arm with 10gr mass with 15 gram weight cartridge?
Just do it. Keep in mind that any published figure for tonearm effective mass must be accompanied by some other information, if we are to make sense of it. We need to know whether the published figure includes a "typical" cartridge and the mass o...
Audio Technica AT33PTG/II MC Cartridge, anyone have it or heard it?
Phono gain alone is never the whole story. You need to add linestage gain. You need to consider amplifier input sensitivity (how many signal volts are required for full amplifier output) and speakers sensitivity . Also room size and reflectivity o...
Is it ok to stack LPs horizontally?
It has always seemed to me that the only point at which storing LPs vertically may become advantageous as regards to warping is when they are fairly tightly packed on a shelf with firm left and right boundaries.  Otherwise, like someone else said,...
Review: Pure Fidelity Harmony Turntable
I don't care for MDF as a structural material for a turntable plinth, but other than that, this looks like a well thought out and well built turntable that I guess would sound fine.  None of it is groundbreaking, but they chose good ideas from a n...
Who Is An Expert On Acutex Cartridges?
For what it's worth, I realized the other evening that the MMC20CL was adjusted so that the tail was "up" just a bit.  It's sometimes difficult to level the very short vertical arm wand of the DV505.  Anyway, I did lower the vertical pivot just a ...
Turntable Placement Between Speakers with Short Interconnect?
Read the fine print. Many companies convey the suggestion that their circuit is balanced, when it ain’t necessarily so. XLR connectors do not necessarily indicate a balanced circuit inside. On the other hand, balanced is not necessary for your pur...
How do I get the best soundstage?
Imagine if clubs and concert halls and all the other assorted auditoria in which music is performed were subject to the electronic constraints that Mijostyn prefers to apply in his home system.  Would it add to enjoyment of the music?  Would we ev...
How do I get the best soundstage?
Hysteve, I have not digested all of the posts that came after my original one, wherein I asked whether you have ever been able to experience what you feel is "excellent" sound staging with the Volti spkrs. My unspoken point was that a friend of mi...
