CD Player with volume control to drive my Nuforces
McIntosh MCD500, or 301, or 201. The 201 is the cheapest, while the 500 is the most expensive and many Mc lovers speak highly of this unit as far as DAC and volume control abilities. Analog volume control.Levinson 39 also has analog volume control.
Are DAC prices reflecting sound quality?
Thanks for the insightful replies.I guess at some point I'll have to make a decission about whether to spend $X on a new device or $X in "once SOTA" used device. And frankly I have no idea which way I'll be heading...even though I've been thinking...
Berkeley Alpha DAC vs Theta Gen VIII and stuff...
Richard,Unfortunately I cannot provide input for your question, as I'm basically standing at the same spot you are in, although it will take me about another year to save enough cash. If you don't mind, I would greatly appreciate if you could post...
Preamp w/ xlrs in the ht-bypass loop
HT bypass is not something I actively been searching, but if my memory is not playing tricks on me, then the Rowland Capri meets your criteria. Actually I think it meets all of your criteria, including the less is more.Haven't heard it, though, bu...
CD Player with Analogue Volume Controlled Output
These come to mind:McIntosh MCD500, MCD301Levinson 39S (not sure about reliability here)Raysonic CD168The AA Capitole and Opus 21, both mentioned already, are said to great as well.My two cents. Have been looking into these as well.
Mcintosh C220 vs CJ ET-2
Audiofreakgeek: Interesting statements. At the $3.5-$4k price point, in your opinion how does the Mc 275 compare to CJ, BAT, and Audio Research? Not much embellishment going on for the 275.I did read somewhere the LS26 sounded much better in someo...
confused about equipment racks
Hi.This is the best article I know of, per your request to read something: 1995 Stereophile's "Bad Vibes" article http://www.stereophile.com/reference/52/index.htmlYou would probably benefit from reading it a few times over several days to let all...
What amp&pre are you using to drive Spendor S8e?
There is at least one guy at McIntosh forum at audiokarma.org that drives these with a MC2102 and loves it. I can't remember his moniker, though. My 1 cent!Horacio
Rotel RB-1070 vs RB-1080
Several years ago I auditioned an RB1080 vs RB1050 (I think it was 1050, but the smallest of the lot anyway...60 W I think) and the sound difference went beyond just how loud the amps could go without clipping. The 1050 clipped at fairly low volum...
Tube Amp to play with my B&W 803D
I run 804S with a McIntosh MC275 and love it. The 275 definitely has no trouble driving the 804S. For the 803D, however, you might need/want MC275 running in mono, so 2xMC275, and short runs from amp to speaker would help even more.I've heard 802D...
B&W 804S & 825 Floor Spike Thread Pitch
M6, meaning metric thread of 6 milimeters in diameter. Just a standard thread pitch almost anywhere in the World except for the US.Horacio
CD Players with Volume control?
McIntosh MCD301 and MCD500, and I think the MCD201 too.Levinson 39S, but has some reliability issues reported.
Wadia 270/27 vs. Esoteric P70/D70
Irish65,Thanks for the tip. Looking into GNSC web site I discovered they don't mod the 270/27, which I thought they did.So it looks more like a 581SE vs P70/D70 thread, although the 27 allows for more inputs. Are you able to comment of the sound si...
B&W Matrix 802 S3 pairing with McIntosh amp
B&W and Mac are regarded by many as a good combo. I haven't heard either piece, but own MC275 (tubes) and 804s and love the match. I have heard at my dealer's larger B&W (803D, 802D, 800D) driven by Mac solid state (MC402, MC501) and was a...
How can a subwoofer expand the soundstage?
Dbphd,Thanks for your feedback. This is valuable info for me, as I ponder over the value of adding an external crossover before the amp. Would appreciate your thoughts on this.I run B&W 804s, which are said to have a frequency response down to...
