Duelund conversion to DIY Helix Geometry Cabling
Hello. I did a rough implementation of the Helix speaker wires to test out the geometry and liked the results. I am now looking to build a Helix power cord and single ended interconnects with the materials in the recipe, and before buying the mat...
Vandersteen Sub woofers v Rythmik Subs
I haven't used the Rythmiks in this fashion for several years, and I'm away from home for a couple weeks to check, but my recollection is they have the option to connect to the amp taps and have a knob to adjust the xo frequency so your loudspeake...
Vandersteen Sub woofers v Rythmik Subs
@bondmanp  Not really. Rythmiks also have the connection to feed off the amp taps, have phase and Q adjustments. But having more variables, hence options, also introduces more uncertainties, which is why sub integration is such a difficult task e...
Vandersteen Sub woofers v Rythmik Subs
You can start with 80Hz crossover and later try higher or lower. Don't know the Vandersteen sub nor M12, but do have multichannel with two F12 as subs. In my experience leaving the bottom to subs is better, provided integration is done right. To ...
Try a sub a third in the back
FWIW, I'm  aware of different ways to do it. I was wondering how OP had done it.   I did go from a Rel Storm III  to two sealed Rythmiks with servo and was a very significant improvement. Learnt to measure the room, identified key issues, treate...
Try a sub a third in the back
@pennpencil    How did you connect the 3rd sub? Understand the 1st & 2nd are in stereo, but how is #3 connected? Earl Geddes distributed bass array has subs played in mono, up to 80Hz, adjusting each to achieve an even bass response across...
Spatial X5 speakers
I realize most people here aren't into DIY and only a minority use active speakers, but wanted to share I added a Yamamoto 45-type SET to drive this Beyma AMT tweeter in open baffle, same as with X3 & X5, and I'm very very happy. These AMT hav...
Spatial X5 speakers
@jaymark glad to read that! Looking forward to your experiment with the X5. You probably can improvise something to hold them for an initial test. On paper the height of the AMT plus waveguide should be an issue for a crossover that high, but the...
Spatial X5 speakers
I would check with Townshend about speaker sensitivity matching and how to plug them into the X5. The Townshends have variable level control maxed at 89dB sensitivity. The Beyma AMT are 102dB and the X5 is rated 97dB. Maybe that's an issue? The ...
Spatial X5 speakers
Thanks for the info on xo points! 1kHz is kind of lower than usual for the AMT, but your ears report it sounds great. Good input! It also makes sense for a 12" mid. I guess going higher would lead to beaming. Also interesting the 15" is crossed ...
Spatial X5 speakers
@ozzy62  Thank you for confirming. I wasn't aware. Do you know the xo for the sub? The midbass/midrange seems to be Eminence Deltalite 2512, spec'ed as 99.9dB (of course not for OB). Depending on where these are xo they may or may not get to rea...
Spatial X5 speakers
@audiosaurusrex  Are you positive the X line has powered sub? I guess you mean the lower 15" driver? I don't see this noted in their website nor I can see the amp module in the pictures I've seen. That would explain how a 3-way OB could be driven...
Which subwoofer?
Closing this loop in case someone in the future is interested in OB subs. I exchanged with several folks, some very knowledgeable in OB.Danny Richie used sealed boxes in the back of the rooms at some audio shows to prevent large seat-to-seat varia...
Which subwoofer?
@noble101Indeed,Earl Geddes has said that subs has been enough for him, but 4 is better. It's important to note when Geddes talks about "better" bass he's referring to seat-to-seat variations across the room. So bass is more Eben across the room. ...
Which subwoofer?
@bdp24 Thanks again. You are right I was misunderstanding what the models implied. I totally get the F12 since mine are F12-like in heavy DIY sealed boxes. I thought the F12G were paper cone and open baffle (like Danny's designs), but I see on Ryt...
