Well, I just wanted to try to finish off this thread (thanks for reminding me).I ended up with Reference 3A, specifically the Dulcet model they have described here: http://www.reference3a.com/dulcet.htmHong Kong is a small place with small apartme...
120/115V vs. 100V
Thanks for the information everyone. Actually, my move to Hong Kong is pretty permanent, for at least the near term.It sounds like I should look out for a 120V converter instead. Sounds like it might be a bit safer to have the proper voltage.Hack,...

Just returned from a week in South America. Sherod, thanks for your advice. I'll do my research and try to get a listen to both of these.

Thanks everyone, for the support and well wishes. This is why I love the community at Audiogon!I would really love to stay with Alons, but Hong Kong is a much smaller and crowded place (think Manhattan)...hence I'm not sure where I will be living ...
Castle Pembroke opinions
Decided to stay with the Alon I Mk IIs (see system). As a used pair, these are a steal. At first I thought it sounded terrible, but that was because it was playing new equipment. Very neutral of the upstream signal and careful component and cable ...

I missed that new article in Hi-Fi Choice. From all the feedback on this thread, sounds like these are a nice pair of speakers for the Jolida, but unfortunately Jpstereo's comment (about not being a good choice for bass heavy rock music) sticks ou...
Jolida and B&W Nautilus 805
Thanks for the suggestions...I'll do some research. With some experimentation on speaker positioning, I'm able to tune the bass... Note everything is new and needs breaking in. Then the tubes and speaker wires will be upgraded...

Oops, those are actually van den Hul CS122 speaker cables...

Trelja,The midrange is AWESOME with the EL34, but you are certainly right...the bass is certainly lacking. Fortunately the nice folks at my dealer are ordering some Russian tubes they recommend to boost the lower end. I'm not sure which ones they ...
Jolida and B&W Nautilus 805
Thanks for the advice all! After borrowing some equipment from a local dealer, I'm happy with what I've put together. I mated the Spendor S3/5s with the Jolida 202 with excellent results.
Jolida and B&W Nautilus 805
Thanks for all the great advice...but I'm starting to doubt I will carry out this massive (expensive) project...I think it's going to be budget stuff for me...maybe a Jolida matched with cheaper speakers... :P
Jolida and B&W Nautilus 805
My room is about 18 x 11 and I don't listen at party volumes (although, occasionally, I will turn it up a little to get some of the excitement out of rock music...). :)Let me name off a few artists in my CD collection of late:India Arie, Coldplay,...
Roksan Caspian vs Musical Fidelity A3.2 CD
thanks...do you own a caspian and if so, what's your setup like? roksan doesn't seem to be a popular choice on audiogon. i've seen recommended setups from what hi-fi and hi-fi choice though...anybody else have a contrary opinion?thanks.
Recommend upgrade for NAD C541
Sorry...I just noticed the Rotel combination didn't come out from the subject...it was the RA-02 Integrated with the RCD-02 CDP.I think I have optimized my room layout...but the bed is killing the highs (in addition to the carpet).Any comments wou...
Recommend upgrade for NAD C541
I am also considering the 541i or C270 upgrade, thanks. Although from most posts I've seen, bi-amping doesn't seem like a popular combination...would an amp of equivalent price to a bi-amped config be more effective? Thanks.
