Townshend platform under digital component or amplifier ?
@akg_ca, Thanks for the links. I enjoy Beekhuyzen, he's a bit dry buy no BS. This subject is almost as misunderstood as acoustics and cables LOL
Townshend platform under digital component or amplifier ?
@hilde45,  yes good old squash balls which I have tried long ago and work surprisingly well. I found that depending on the load they carry the performance varies. If you're lucky and the combination ends up with a low enough resonant frequency the...
Yes, cables do make a difference -- regardless of price...
@steakster, If electrons could only talk, I’d certainly get a charge out of hearing their stories. I think it would be electrifying, quite amped to hear this 😵 An exploratory visit to warmer climes happening soon.

@markwd, I have seen some research work on people being able to detect sounds outside of the typical 20kHz window, though it seems largely irrelevant to music reproduction, so while there might be yet-to-be-understood science out there, the defau...

@steakster, hope this finds you well mate,  and good post.
Are there any issues with connecting speaker wire in this manner?
You're welcome, please keep us informed on further findings. I am, for one, very interested.
Luxman leaves me wanting
@steverrino,  perhaps the Luxman and your speakers are not an ideal marriage but you should not be hearing what you describe. We know nothing about your room acoustics nor the shape, size or structure. Cables and different amps at this stage will ...
Are there any issues with connecting speaker wire in this manner?
@Icherepkai, I applaud your experimental efforts. I use solid core for just about everything simply because I find it superior to stranded. I have Harmonic Technology Pro 9 speaker cables which use different sized solid cores and these are my refe...
High End System Building. How important is the matching, cabling and room? Thoughts ?
You are seriously missing the mark if you think electronics can be designed to mitigate the damage room acoustics do to the sound. How can the designer know what size or shape room the amp will be used in? Of course in an untreated room a collect...
High End System Building. How important is the matching, cabling and room? Thoughts ?
@benanders, @mahgister, @gregm, All good advice and argument. To bolster my above comments regardless of the insistence of the OP to the contrary I firmly stand behind the premise that a lower budget system in a properly treated room and wit...
High End System Building. How important is the matching, cabling and room? Thoughts ?
@gregm  with all due respect, the speakers-room interaction is a practical reality, scientifically proven - it is not a belief or "school of thought I fully agree with your good post.   @calvinj,  I disagree with your dubious stance which ap...
Musical subwoofer under $2000
@gdnrbob, yes Richard Vandersteen's rather unique practice of using a woofer below it's natural resonance frequency works extremely well. I have not seen mention of anyone else using this approach. High passing the main speakers makes so much sen...
Musical subwoofer under $2000
@highend64, thanks for the heads up on Rational Acoustics. I was not aware of this and will be looking into it. I use mostly Omnimic V2 available from Parts Express.
Musical subwoofer under $2000
@gotvinyl, thanks for the compliment. Yes Duke's Swarm or Debra are great and great value. However although the multi-sub approach is amazing I find that the lower frequencies in some rooms take too long to decay and some help from bass traps help...
Why "bookshelf" sspeakers?
I have mentioned before that so called full range speakers really are not! The salesman claims:  "Sir with these full rangers you will never need subs" This is, in it's most innocent form, a misunderstanding or ignorance but probably a simple lie...
