Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state?
@gochurchgo interested to hear how the new Gold Lions compare to RCA black plates in terms of noise floor and soundstage! Have you listened yet? Also what “level” did you buy from Upscale?
Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state?
Not to hi-jack the thread but it seems on topic - anyone have clues about the hiss on my Rogue Sphinx?@gochurchgo the whine is less and less frequent so I want to believe it’s part of Brent Jessee’s burn-in theory. The hiss is a different story, s...
Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state?
I sent back my crazy noisy RCA blackplates to Brent Jesse and spent 4x the money for Mazda 12AU7s pre-tested for noise and microphonics. These are better - actually listenable - but there’s a weird high pitched whine every so often and I can still...

@ADMIN, could you please send me the coupon code as well?  Thank you!
Is the ideal multi-way a 3-way with limited bass?
How about Rega’s side firing bass driver? This seems to be a great implementation in a floor stander allowing flexibility and tuning to the room.

Also just received a set of noisy tubes from Brent Jesse in my first attempt at tube rolling - will report back on the resolution.
Anybody have both Herbie's Cone/Spike Pucks and isoacoustics gaia's
Quick update - got my Herbie's sliders yesterday.  Was looking for something to help tighten up a little bloaty bass.  Holy Crow, these things are crazy.  Soundstage is expanded, instrumental separation and clarity is bananas.  Very cool tweak.

Thanks for this post - exactly my question.  Just ordered the Herbie's as they are 1/3 the cost.  Will post results!
Versatile, non-fatiguing speakers for a small room under $1500 used or new: advice needed!
One thing people say about the lintons is that they need to be pretty far from the front wall so I don’t think they’d work in this application. I really want them to work for me but I don’t think they will either.
$1500 to spend...
@dayglow Thanks for this - as I've continued to mull this decision, this is the same idea i keep coming back to!  I listened to some Ohm Walsh speakers yesterday, they sounded great, but I didn't a feeling that I needed them.  Regarding the Marant...

I’ve added the Ohm MicroWalsh Tall speakers to my consideration. Could my Brio-R handle them well?

I’m in a very similar boat with the exact same budget! I’ve been looking closely at the Wharfedale EVO 4.3 but haven’t heard them yet - I’m a full range floor-stander fan. Interested to see what others recommend!

I’ve had the same experience with Audio Advisor and Music Direct. Ever notice how all product reviews are positive? Seems to be par for the course.

In a secondary post I noted that my budget already includes selling whatever component is replaced. Thanks again for your help?ill also note that I was correct in assuming that you aren’t familiar with my speakers. Gosh I do hope you can move on f...

@mesch thanks for that thorough explanation and your theory makes a lot of sense!  I listen to a lot of indie pop, electro, rnb, and lots of Prince, so I definitely need those lower octaves.
