Differences among the electrostatics of Martin Logan models?
I am looking into ML 11’s. The dealer near me didn’t have a pair on hand, so he suggested the ESL X, from the Electromotion series. I was not impressed. The one aspect that bothered me the most was the disjointed  nature of the upper range with th...
Quad 2912 vs Martin Logan ESL 11a
@ mijostyn, I had done some research on Sound Lab.  Given my situation with lower power tube amps, unavailibily of  dealer support, and frankly, pricing that is out of my range, there is close to zero possibility of my owning a pair of Sound Lab ...
Quad 2912 vs Martin Logan ESL 11a
@pvmike, Thanks for sharing you speaker placement info.  I would have thought that 4' and 1.5' from side and rear walls respectively were too close, not enough space to breathe.  But if professionals set up the speakers in your room with those fin...
Quad 2912 vs Martin Logan ESL 11a
I auditioned the ML 11a yesterday. The speakers were not optimized in their placement and the source was a smart phone streaming through Tidal, although with Anthem electronics. Given less than optimal conditions, and no more than 40 minutes of li...
Quad 2912 vs Martin Logan ESL 11a
@pvmike2 Thanks for that assessment. I have arranged an audition of the 11a this weekend. Looking forward to confirming that the integration of bass with electrostatic panel is not an issue. I will report back shortly.
Replacing my MFA Luminescence B2 preamp
@atmasphere Thanks for that bit of insight on the JP80. Next upgrade for the Lumi will be the vol pots.
Replacing my MFA Luminescence B2 preamp
@jafox Kudos to your post from 2008 on the Aria WV5 XL in particular,  and your audio quest in general. Your experiences with the various preamps have also given me a better reference point for the Lumi, I think.I came to acquire the Von Gaylord p...
Quad 2912 vs Martin Logan ESL 11a
Franking, after auditioning the Quad 2812, I was quite taken by the speakers. I was ready to go with Quads. But reviews for ML masterpiece series are really positive. Decided to wait.I do worry about QC issues with the newer Quads. I have read use...
Replacing my MFA Luminescence B2 preamp
I just read up on  AR SP10, SP11, ML-7a, and CJ Premier 7 through a series of Stereophile reviews. All reference level preamps from mid-80’s to early 90’s vintages.  If @jafox ‘barely preferred’ the AR SP 10 over the Lumi, then it should belong to...
Replacing my MFA Luminescence B2 preamp
@atmasphere Thanks for the last bit of advice. When time allows, I will be doing some comparisons with newer preamps.
Replacing my MFA Luminescence B2 preamp
Within the span of two posts, we have responses from a past owner of the MC Reference and a present day owner of a Venusian!!! Very impressive. One of the corollary of what teo_audio982 is suggesting is that certain vintage gears, by virtue of thei...
Replacing my MFA Luminescence B2 preamp
The posts by Jafox and opus111 are very much appreciated. I think they touched on the intent of my original post. I was really wondering about Lumi’s place in today’s hi-end audio world. There is no question that Lumi has become a collector’s item,...
Replacing my MFA Luminescence B2 preamp
Hi Joe,My situation was clearly a case of not knowing a good. I have since been set straight, and lately by you. I contacted Scott many moons ago, right after my purchase. He verified that it was of the ‘B’ iteration. I may write to him as you sug...
Replacing my MFA Luminescence B2 preamp

Replacing my MFA Luminescence B2 preamp
Thank you for your comments. It looks like a deeper commitment to the Luminescence  is the way to go. I’ll be taking care of TT belts shortly. Digital will have to take a back seat even though I agree with elevick that it is a weak link. Thanks !
