My turntable hates Cat Stevens
Halco,"OK the set up: I have a VPI Scout with the Dyanvector 20x2L cart (MC) with the VPI 3g headshell weight. My phono pre is a Dynavector P75 set to the PE mode for low output carts. I used the Mint protractor to set things up and I'm fairly cer...

Help my Thiels broke - not sure what to do
Well, I called Thiel and spoke with Gary. Very nice fellow. I asked what he would have suggested I do and he said that he would have asked if I could solder! I went over my entire proceedure and he agreed with it. So I guess I did the right thing....
Help my Thiels broke - not sure what to do
my dealer was Crutchfield. And while I have no doubts they would have helped, the effort to get just one wire soldered would have been over the top for the time it took me to fix it. However, I will be calling Thiel today to discuss.

Tketcham - I'm using it on my JMW due to its low mass also. Even though I'm using a Dynavector cart that VPI suggests I'm having a bit of sibilance issues I'm trying to dial out. It seems to be helping. Once I dial my alignment in with my Mint pro...
Cables more hype than value?
The more resolving the equipment the more of the nuances between cable you can hear. I have heard and do believe they make a difference. For good or for bad. All the hoopla of manufacutre toting "you will hear the inner soul of your music" and "so...

Should of proofread better: I was NOT 100% it was a perfect joint. I wish I was that good.
Help my Thiels broke - not sure what to do
Well I soldered it. I didn't get y'all's responses until after so I ended up reading about how silver flows easier and at lower volume and used that. Though im not sure i found this to be the case. The wires go through a hole in the back of the th...

Also, I would like to know what, if any, negative consequences, there are to using them.

I just installed the brass ones last night. Not a whole lot of listening time but the music seems more focused and the bass seems tighter. This amonunted to a 5g increase in weight for me. According to the charts above that puts me around 9 hz res...
VPI Scout setup after watching Frefmer's video
I have the CI as well and it does make easy work of azimuth adjustments as well as small changes in TF. No regrets there. The one thing that concerns me is even though I run no twist for AS there is still some push from the cable just due to its s...
VPI Scout setup after watching Frefmer's video
I only say "intended" because I've read in various posts how the memorial arm does not work well with the lighter MC carts. Maybe "intended"isn't the best word, but essentially it gets us to the same point - the arm seems to "prefer" the heavier M...
VPI Scout setup after watching Frefmer's video
I've ordered the Mint protractor and the VPI headshell wt. As I understand it my Memorial tonearm was not originally intended for MC carts, and the extra weight is suppose to address that to some degree. However I am still confused about setting u...
$$$ vs music enjoyment
Lets be honest, at the heart of every audiophile is a gadget freak. The fact that our love of music goes hand in hand with highly functional yet jewel-like gear is just too good to resist.
End of lp distortion. What does it sound like
I have a Scout with a new DV 20x2l so it's not worn. As for AS there is only the natural twist of the wires, I did not add any more. I have not messed with VTA or VTF yet.
