Critical listening and altered states Cannabis and music have gone together for me since I was a teenager, and I just turned 70. That's for either listening at home or going to a gig.... Used to enjoy music with acid and 'shrooms, but it's been 3 or 4 decades since I indulged in those!
MM Cartridge Recommendation I've got a Clearaudio Charisma MM and I am very happy with it!
Do you all agree when Prince said the 60s, 70s and 80s were the golden ages of music? No I do not agree. There's been loads of great rock and pop music produced in every decade. You might not LIKE all of it, but that's a different story; one person's 'great' is another person's 'crap'. It's all good as long as you enjoy it.
Stock Voyager GaN amp (350/600) Contrasted with my EVS1200 (600/1200) Tweak1 - Leitz lenses are great, but they are not inherently better than other lenses just because they're Leitz lenses. Oh, and 'depth of field' is adjusted by changing the aperture, it's got nothing whatsoever to do with who makes the lens.
Room vs. Gear vs. time of life, ...and you? I turn 70 next week and wear hearing aids in both ears - I've been upgrading my headphone and my speaker system and I'm enjoying listening to music more now than I ever did! I'm a big fan of Steven Wilson, too!
I feel bad for GenX'ers that missed out on the 60s and 70s. I'm 70 years old and as far as I'm concerned, there's been plenty of wonderful music that I love and plenty of rubbish in any decade you care to mention. If I start going on about how 'today's music is no good', please remind me not to be my paren...

Can we talk about Qobuz for a minute Haven't used Tidal yet, but just signed on to Qobuz this week - quite good selection and the sound quality is as good as my CD's. I understand that Tidal is better at recommending other music you might like than Qobuz, where you seem to need to kn...
CD Quality Versus Streaming Quality 44.1Hz on Qobuz sounds as good to me as any of my CD's, and better than some....
The stereo sounds fine, music is great, but Jeff Bezos came back to earth. Hooray for nonoise!! I'm with you all the way!!
Analog Upgrade - Where to start? I've got a Herron Audio phono stage and line stage preamps, and I love the sound of both of them....
Best sub for music, To the fellow who said there is nothing below 160hz, if you're serious about that statement, it might surprise you that some people listen to music that you obviously don't. |
