External hard drives and sound quality Thanks Herman for pitching in since this thread took off in the last 24 hours. If somebody does hear a difference in sound by changing disk drives or their connection type, it is not because the data is coming back differently from the disk which ...
External hard drives and sound quality Richard, you can believe what you want. One doesn't have to know the actual physics or low level mechanisms how disk drives transmit data to the host. If reading disks was so unreliable to the point where data is being modified undetected, then we...
External hard drives and sound quality Kijanki - The only reason why some people claim they a difference using different types of disks is because they know they changed something and had faulty recollection of what they heard previously. It's basically impossible for the disk type (lo...
External hard drives and sound quality "On many systems, you wont hear a difference. On a high res. system, a NAS has a less darker background than a spinning HD, which is not as quiet as a solid state HD."Sorry, not to be rude, but that's total crap. If you can read/write data to the ...
Dream system - but no aftermarket power cords Your noise is most likely cause from "things" plugged into your circuit(s). Could be your components or other things in the house. A power conditioner or something to isolate components should help. Unless your power cords aren't of sufficient gau...
Wadia iTransport and Classic iPod's EQ setting Sorry, nevermind. I interpreted Jaytea's post wrong (shouldn't post before coffee). Yes processing after the DAC wouldn't be heard with the Wadia.
Wadia iTransport and Classic iPod's EQ setting The DAC in the iPod is not used with the Wadia. The EQ is probably applied during the decoding of the lossless file. You're getting your terms confused. DAC = Digital-to-analog conversion.
Anyone have much experience with ESOTERIC DV50s I've had a DV50 for 4 or 5 years and have been extremely pleased with it. At the prices you can buy one now it's tough to beat. It sees less use now that I've gone to a computer front end with an Ayre QB-9.

Need help with Dedicated music server. Anything that uses S/PDIF will not perform as well as asynchronous USB. With S/PDIF the target end still has to recover the clocking from the data stream. Cabling and termination on the target end will still come into play regardless of how good t...
is ayre qb-9 dac better than cx7e mp? I have a QB-9 and love it. I also have a Esoteric DV-50 and if there are any differences, they're too subtle for me to hear and rely on memory. I also keep seeing the thing about the Mac and adding the extra memory changing the sound. (Could be fr...

Is Monster cable getting better? Kirkus, you are right on the money and thanks for adding that. I was ignoring the cable length and quality issues because trying to keep people from falling for the "voodoo" that's rampant with analog video and audio. Also, at one point in the "hi...
Is Monster cable getting better? Here's something I posted in another thread here about HDMI cables and video. It will save some of you the trouble of looking it up....HDMI uses TMDS (Transition Minimized Differential Signaling) to send data. In short, each 8bit data value is enc...
Is Monster cable getting better? If you think an HDMI can make video look "better" or "worse" compared to another HDMI cable, please do some reading on how HDMI works for video. It's impossible for a HDMI cable to uniformly change a video stream of encoded bits. If you do see a d... |
