Tube vs Solid State
Al - After a day of 85db plus listening, my ears were ringing all night long with musical passages :-)In all seriousness, yes 800's and KWA150SE performed much better in vertical bi-amping at 85db plus. And I did appreciate the separation between ...
Tube vs Solid State
Al, you are spot on amp gain in bridge mode, it's 32db. I mostly listen to jazz and classical music. I think it's worth a second shot to  try vertical bi-ampimg again tomorrow and increase the volume upto 80db to compensate for -6db gain. George, ...
Tube vs Solid State
"less weighty"Al and George,  I might add, may not be listening my music at loud enough volume to 'feel' low bass frequencies in vertical bi-amping. I normally listen to my music at 60db's. I had someone come over last weekend and we conducted som...
Audiogon Anti-Lowball Offer setting
@jedinite24 ~ I am usually quite tolerant of low ball offers.  Not too long ago a buyer in California, who happens to be a Doctor sent me a $500 offer on a speaker advertised for $1799.00. I blocked his sorry ass from bidding on my stuff :-)I sold...
Tube vs Solid State
Bill, thanks, that's a good point. The only issue with padding down the gain on SS is a trip to manufacturer for gain adjustment. However, this option is quite appealing considering the added expense of external crossover and extra sets of cables ...
Tube vs Solid State
@swampwalker , you didn't dissuade me at all. I am still determined to try bi-amping before I give it up in favor of a hybrid or class A heavyweights, like Krell or Pass Labs. George, good point. That's exactly what I experienced last weekend. Che...
Tube vs Solid State
Thanks Al, i will speak to Dan soon and chime back in soon. Spencer, great feedback.  I have heard 800's with McIntosh and Classe and to my ears, McIntosh matched very nicely with 800's. I would love to try Aesthetix Atlas mono's but they are bit ...
Tube vs Solid State
"My suggestion is that you consider trying your existing amps in a passive vertical biamp configuration...."Al, thank you for your feedback. I have already tried this, while I gain bit of better separation in mid’s and high’s, the bottom falls out...
B&W 800D or 802D Cosmetic Issues
Long story short, the dealer end up replacing the Marlan head and tweeter tube on one of the speaker.  The whole experience kinda left a bad taste and took away the joy of buying a 'new' pair.
Equipment Stand
Marcus,  Glad to hear you are delighted with your purchase of PlyKraft 3L.  Good luck with your turntable project and many years of musical bliss!!!!
$500 USB cable
@geoffkait, well said 'An ordinary man has no means of deliverance'.
PS Audio BHK 300 mono VS Modwright KWA 150SE mono VS D'agostino Classic stereo
thieliste, I have not tried the 36.5DM power supply.  I did discuss the separate power supply option with Dan prior to buying the LS36.5. According to him, it's a whole another level of performance.  It's on my short list of future upgrades. I don...
PS Audio BHK 300 mono VS Modwright KWA 150SE mono VS D'agostino Classic stereo
+1 melbguy1.  I am very happy with a pair of Modwright KWA150SE driving my B&W802D2's in bridge configuration. This amp is grossly underrated, easily one of the best solid state amp under $10K. The holographic imaging, tubey mid-range, fabulou...
Aurender N10 or X100L
"do you think it is "overpriced" to my current audio system?"Only you can answer this question. You do have a nice system to boot, adding N10 will definitely enhance your listening experience. The overall improvements I heard in the soundstage bet...
Cable elevators
@maxboy00 ,  thank you for sharing your experience with elevators. That's what good friends for, they do keep it real :-)IMO, tweaks are very much components or system dependent and above all user ability to discern any improvements - good or bad....
