When is the last time you randomly ran into
It happens to me very occasionally.(Three times that I can think of in the past 25 years.)We're a dying breed it seems.(Although, I have created a couple of budding audiophiles myself, so I'm doing my part to keep our hobby going!):-)
The best hifi magazine?
HiFI+ is my favorite too.Stereophile is the new Stereo Review. It does have good measurements though, which is its one redeeming feature. (And I don't like Art, nor do I like Mikey.)The Absolute Sound is on par with Stereo Review, (sorry, I mean St...
Down-firing subs and downstairs neighbors
My advice is to hold off on the downward firing subwoofers.Until you downstairs neighbors do something to piss you off. Then buy two of them!:-)
How LONG have you been an AUDIOGONER'?
WOW! I feel like a baby, since I've only been a member since March of 2003.
Looking for a good balanced preamp: Atma MP-3?
Another option would be the Ayre K-1XE. This preamp is very well reviewed by the Audio magazines (both on-line as well as print). Used they go for under $5K, (and closer to $4K if you only want the line stage, although, the optional phono boards a...
2K-3K Cartridge for SME10/BAT VK-P10SE superpak
Scott,Yeah, I know what you're saying about buying a used cartridge. I too had those same reservations a while back. However, I did buy my second Koetsu (A Koetsu Rosewood Signature) used, (and from Ebay - yeah, that was scary!), as well as my Shel...
2K-3K Cartridge for SME10/BAT VK-P10SE superpak
Well, since you like your Dynavector, how about going "whole hog" and going with a Dynavector XV-1S, (or even its predeccesor, the XV-1?Used they can be found within your budgeted amount, usually for as low as $1,900 (which is what I bought mine f...
Ayre K1X vs K1Xe
Mike,Glad to see you went for it, and that you can appreciate the benefits of the "e" (evolution) upgrade.I consider my K-1xe to be one of the cornerstones of my system, which means I doubt I will be upgrading beyond it for a long time, if ever!:-...
Avalon Eidolon Diamond-Worth it?
Tom,If you don't mind, I have a question for your regarding the differences between the regular Eidolon and the Diamond version. (Nick, I hope you don't mind my slightly hi-jacking your thread!)The specifications for the regular Eidolon, (I assume...
Vinyl vs. top-notch digital
Jeff,Why don't you post where you live, and see if you can go over and listen to another audiogon member's system, (one with both a decently high end analog source, as well as a digital source), so that you can see for yourself whether you think h...
The Best $10,000.00 Table + Cartridge
How about a little more information?Such as:Do you wish to buy new or used?Do you need a tone arm to go with the table and cartridge, or do you already have one?(I assume you need one, but since you specifically did not mention it, I thought it pr...
Ayre K1X vs K1Xe
Mmike,84,Yes, I run my 0.3 mv output cart with 70 db of gain, although, if I could, I'd rather use about 65 db of gain.60 db of gain would probably work, but just barely, IMHO.With a cart with 0.5mv output, I would use about 60 db of gain, and wit...
Ayre K1X vs K1Xe
MMike84,Glad to see you're upgrading the K-1x to a K-1xe!You won't regret it, IMHO.Regarding the 1o db additional gain that I mentioned:Here is a link to a similiar thread on AudioAsylum from a couple years ago.Similiar AudioAsylum ThreadAs you ca...
seeking preamp suggestions for Lamm M1.2 amps
My friend uses an ARC Ref. 3 with his Lamm M2.2s, (the more powerful class A/B cousin to the M1.2), and it sounds great. It runs both single ended as well as balanced inputs and outputs, and it has a great remote control that controls everything.(...
Audio Research PH3
I used one for a year or two, and I would say that it was a very good phono stage. I used it with my Benz Micro Glider (0.84 mv output), and then with my Koetsu Black (0.42 mv output - yeah, I know its rated at 0.6, but I agree with Roy Gregory th...
