Monitor speakers pros/cons
No problem Tobias - I read them all word for word :-)If I had a 20x30 room and a $10K budget, I'd start by looking at floor standers and go the monitor route only if I was still left wanting. You don't mention whether this room is dedicated or sha...
What is "critical listening"?
I think one form of critical listening just means dedicated listening - you're listening to music as your primary and only activity, usually in an environment that is set up to provide the best sound - ie, fully utilize your system. Or, perhaps, t...
Flavor Of the Month
I've always read "flavor of the month" not so much as a put down of the product, but as a put down of the concept that the lastest, say, CD player is so revolutionary that you'd be crazy not to scrap your current player and rush right out and pay ...
Best Dual purpose HT and Music speakers 10k
I have Dynaudio Contours (3.0's in front, with matching center, Audience 50's in back), so I guess by definition that's what I'd recommend since that's what I decided on. I have a dual purpose system that I avidly use for both music and movies.I t...
Best Concert DVD
U2's latest concert video is awesome on all counts, assuming you like U2. Something like 20 cameras. Great audio and video.Nine Ince Nails - All That Could Have Been. The music is somewhat difficult to listen to for a long time, and the video qual...
I can't really hear a big difference
Dennis - My take on audio gear has always been that if I'm "upgrading", the change should be very noticeable and much better - as you say, nobody would suggest this is not an improvement. I'm not searching for that last .1%, at least at this point...
Talon Khorus x or B&W 802
Thanks to both who responded to my question about room size. Currently, I have a 14x18 room which I consider "medium" sized. I read about some speakers that sound like they'd be great, and then realize they wouldn't work in this size room. Nice to...
Talon Khorus x or B&W 802
FS_audio - what would the minimum room size be to realize the benefits of the Khorus X speakers?
How much does your system retail for?
Especially if you're married to Jane Q Public.....
Has your system changed the music you listen to?
That was kind of my take on it too, Onhwy61 - some combination of having a nice system, enough money to purchase a fair amount of music, and getting older and broadening my horizons a bit has led me to explore and appreciate a much wider variety o...
Audiogon Hall of Fame? And the nominees are...
I agree with Ben - the value in a site like this is the number of quality posters and the variety of the points of view and experiences. Good posts and good posters are regularly acknowledged, and it seems that any attempt to create a list of "exc...
Love for music shatter by highend equipment
There is some point for everybody where diminishing returns set in. Probably everybody at this site sees a point in spending at least a couple thousand dollars per component before getting to the knee in the curve, and probably more than that if b...
Girlfriends and wifes, how do YOU cope?
I love watching sports, particularly basketball. I used to think that it would be nirvana to find a woman who was as avid a fan as I was. I'm now happily married to a woman who is at least tied for Most Apathetic sports fan in the world - she not ...
New modern / rock / alternative music on SACD
Joe Satriani, Engines of Creation was available on SACD, probably still is. I haven't seen his latest, Strange Beautiful Music, on SACD yet, but I'm hoping it appears - it's great. -Kirk
Manners, Eticks & Audiogon --- What do you think???
Cloudgif - I don't think you're wrong in your observations, but I guess a lot of that stuff doesn't bother me much. You see a lot of ads for things that, at first blush, look like a great deal, but then I remember that this is a pretty open enviro...
