Impedance????
"I want to make sure I am at 8 ohm coming to the speaker." You can't because no normal amp is. Typically, the amp has a much lower output impedance than the rated load. Usually by a couple of orders of magnitude. Now, if you meant to determine the ...
SME III help needed
The S version lacks the damping trough as a standard feature; it is an option. The S version has simpler counterweight adjustments without the screw trim.Kal
Anybody still using soft rubber isolation devices?
Why not? They do different things and, depending on the situation, one or the other might be preferred.Kal
Could this be a Major Breakthough ?
Many others are doing it. See, for example, Meridian Room Correction, Audyssey, TacT, Lexicon, RoomEQ Wizard, etc.Kal

Brand of wiring for dedicated circuits?
JPS are stranded. My electrician raised an eyebrow when I handed him a spool of this 'boutique cable' (his words) but he found it extraordinarily easy to route and install. In fact, he expressed an interest until I told him the price.Kal
Combining 2 Channel and HT
There have been several threads here on audiogon on this very topic and most of the arguments/suggestions already expounded.Kal
Bryston SP2 vs Meridian 861
I prefer the sound of the 861 to the SP2 with digital input but I rarely listened to either in stereo. I suspect it's the same as with MCH. However, the 861 has MRC and the SP2 doesn't so that may make some difference.Kal
Bryston SP2 vs Meridian 861
So, you don't need an analog input, right? So? Kal
Bryston SP2 vs Meridian 861
Do you have analog sources that you must use? Such might be an SACD player, a turntable, an FM tuner? If not, then I'd go with the Meridian. Kal
Bryston SP2 vs Meridian 861
Depends. In analog, the fully analog circuitry of the SP-2 is the hands-down winner as it is clean and avoids the A/D-D/A of the Meridian. If the source is digital, then the palm is awarded to the Meridian which is still, imho, the most outstandin...
reluctant about home theater
$8K will mean a compromise if it must include a decent large screen video display. Kal

reluctant about home theater
Plato wrote: "What could be different, hmmm, let me think, maybe it's the extra digital processing required for surround sound...." But there is no additional digital processing required. For DVD-A, there may be the added pass through MLP but that...
reluctant about home theater
It is possible. Set up the stereo system as you would and only add the necessary speakers for HT. I prefer to use an analog multichannel preamp which accommodates HT but is not a compromise for stereo.Kal
