Play SACD disc on rebook player?
I believe all the MF Ultradiscs are hybrids meaning they have both SACD and RedBook layers. No adjustments are needed.Kal
Converting DVI to HDMI is it worth doing or just b
If you do not need audio on the cable and you are not having any video problems, there's no need to run a new cable. In fact, when my in-wall HDMI cable failed, I switched to using the in-wall DVI cable with HDMI adapters rather than do the hard w...
4.1 analog vs. digital
The real question is whether you care about the HD audio codecs on BluRay. If you do, analog output is the only way for you to get them. If you don't (and never will), then coax/optical digital out will be OK.Kal
Why not place 2-channel speakers BEHIND listener?
Sure. Whatever works. I have a 5.1 system in my office and all speakers are on my left side. For casual listening, it's OK and, when something grabs my attention, I just pivot and wheel over to enjoy it.Kal
Goertz Zobel?
On the amp terminals is recommended. If you are biwiring from a single pair of amp terminals, it should be fine. With a multichannel amp, I had some problems with the physical space needed and I had to connect the zobels with bananas and the cables...
Have you turned your loved ones into audiophiles
No but one of my daughters married a budding one and I have encouraged him. ;-)Kal
Tools to measure in room response
Pryso- That will, indeed, give you a very rough estimate unless you sample and average several locations in/near the main listening position. The reason is that the FR, especially in the bass, can vary substantially over a span of several inches (...

I reviewed and still use the XTZ system.http://www.stereophile.com/musicintheround/1108mitr/index.htmlhttp://www.stereophile.com/musicintheround/music_in_the_round_34/index1.htmlThere will be a follow-up on the new version in November.Kal
5.1 connection vs coax
Try them both. It will come down to two issues. First, which device has better bass management (if needed) and, second, which device has better D/A conversion.Kal
Tools to measure in room response
There is no simple answer to the question about what one does with the measurement results. The first thing, of course, is to see if there is any correlation with your long-term subjective assessment of system problems. If so, then those need to b...
Tools to measure in room response
One problem is that there is no since "usual listening position." Moving the mic or the SLM only a few inches can change the FR substantially, especially if it is handheld. Using REW, one can take several sweeps from different positions within the...
Tools to measure in room response
Primitive and tedious. The optimal cost/precision/effort way is to use RoomEQ Wizard freeware with your laptop. You can get away with RS meter for this but a better mic is advised. This will give you measurements of swept tones (without resorting t...
Preamp w/ xlrs in the ht-bypass loop
IIRC, any of the inputs on recent Sim-Moon preamps can be programmed as by-passes. These are out of your range as new but, perhaps, a used one will pop up.Kal
New Parasound Gear News?
You can use an external digital RC device (and I have) but requires additional A/D/A conversions that some find unacceptable. My objection is more philosophical. OTOH, the external devices are substantially more expensive.Kal

So I think it would be a big liability for anyone not to include Audyssey or SOME FORM OF ROOM CORRECTION in their new processors.Kal
