Looks like the title is not quite accurate, and in bad form. The title should be changed to an accurate statement.
Audio Research SP9 family
Each mod version is presumably better. How much better is impossible to say, but even the base model is a very nice preamp.. 6922 is a 6dj8 variation and said to be a better version—at least in theory, but its easy to silkscreen anything on a tube...
ARC SP-14 tube question
Without the tube, the voltages in the circuit will be higher in places and may exceed design limits, I would not do it myself. The device was carefully designed to have the tube and its heat. It was not designed for no tube.
Why isn't better quality used gear being made available?
The question is based on a false premise.
Bringing Bryston 4B back to 1997 new.
Thanks so much for the product prices and timelines. I have spent some time looking for it. I have recently purchased a bp25, and got a 3bst a few years ago. Also have a couple of 2b and a .5b. Seems like a lot when I list it here—some nostalgia h...
Class D amplifiers. What's the future look like?
Interesting, thanks.
Class D amplifiers. What's the future look like?
As to the future, is it just a matter of time until all module makers switch to using ganfet? Is the current state of affairs mature with a much diminished rate of change? Or is there plenty of improvement available in the value equation? I could...
What are the best GaN Amplifiers available today?
Since we have some tech heavies in the thread, I am hoping someone can explain the mechanism by which a ‘break-in’ period can change the sound of a class D amp? The caps? The FET?
Class D amplifiers. What's the future look like?
All manufacturers have to deal with high risk decisions regarding product life cycle. Do they innovate with product that cuts into sales of cash cow products? Ralph has made his decision. In the last 60 years of computer technology, we see many ex...
What is meant exactly by the description 'more musical'?
It started for me in high school in the 70s, where we obsessed about specs—THD, bandwidth. Late 80s was post specs—perceived accuracy compared to live, for me based a lot on written reviews of golden ears types. Now, its simply what sounds enjoyab...
Class D amplifiers. What's the future look like?
I see these amps as having components: power amp, power supply, case with plugs, some sort of preamp or driver, and maybe adjustable controls. So, many permutations for designers even if they are simply assemblers of oem components.
Class D amplifiers. What's the future look like?
With computers, I consider the passage of time increases the value equation. This is due to technology improvements and economies of manufacturing scale. I am seeing class D as the same in this respect, but willing to be educated if I have that wr...
Class D amplifiers. What's the future look like?
Class D is not doing calculations in the strictest sense, so digital is not accurate. It does use fets switching on or off, so a binary state, similar to digital computers. So my thought is that calling them digital amps is a reasonable slang and ...
Troubleshooting Audio Interference (Buzz/Hum/Static)
I received the gadget today, a SZSEVSIOT usb power blocker, to  the tune of $65 before tax. It did the job--using it today has eliminated all of the video card noise--just as silent as the toslink. Wish I had one years ago...
