System advice
I guess I should have been a bit more concise. Other systems I have heard (at various dealers) sound more live, as if the musicians are there. My setup sounds good but not quite as "live". Maybe not as crisp? Make sense?I'm in the Chicago area, fa...
Mitsubishi Linear Tracking Turntables
I owned an LT-30 in the mid 80's. It was a fine looking piece and the craftsmanship was first rate. Paired it with a Dynavector Karat 23R and QED preamp/transformer. Unfortunately, it was vastly inferior (sonically) to the Thorens TD-160 with Grac...
How Many Turntables Have You Owned
Some sort of suitcase turntable (age 13-15), Technics (1300, 1400 and 1400MKII), Dual, Harman Kardon, Yamaha, Mitsubishi LT-30, Thorens TD-160 with Grace 707 (SWEET), Technics BD-20D, Music Hall MMF-5SE and VPI Scout.
New Re-Issue Vinyl: Surface Noise, Ticks, Pops....
I clean everything right out of the sleeve. The mold release stuff they use tends to latch onto little nasties which cause some of the ticks and pops. That being said, I too have found new pressings to be hit or miss. If you have a record cleaner....
Interconnect from VPI Scout to Clearaudio basic
You will then need to buy from one of the mail order places in the US...Music Direct, Elusive Disc or Acoustic Sounds. Also, I believe VPI sells direct.
Interconnect from VPI Scout to Clearaudio basic
You might want to give the VPI interconnect a listen. It's not in the stratosphere, price wise, but it is a good sounding cable.
Nakamichi cassette playback in non-Nak deck?
I've owned a Nak CR-4 and a CR-7a and they both were incredible machines and the tapes sounded OK on other decks. But, the deck that put all Naks to shame, as far as playback on other decks, was the HK CD-491. Sounded crystal clear, not even a tra...
Interconnects
I've pretty much done that. I have a low to mid fi system (Vandersteen, Anthem, VPI and Denon) and have used AQ Diamondbacks for everything except the amp-preamp connection. I'm using AQ Black Mamba II for that. I was just looking for differing vi...
Which TT Music Hall 5.1 or Rega P1 or P2
Sinister,Yep...like hearing 20 year old recordings for the first time.
'they blew'em off the stage'
1978-Starcastle (long gone) opened for Styx at Alpine Valley. Styx was great but Starcastle was even better.
Which TT Music Hall 5.1 or Rega P1 or P2
I concur with Hodu.I've owned an MMF 5 Se and recently upgraded to a Scout. There was a clear difference with rock and even with just acoustic guitar and voice. The salesman for both tables referred to the MMF as "lazy" compared to the Scout and I...
Tom Petty fans
VERY cool...
Most popular TT upgrades: skeptical but curious...
I have a Scout and am currently demo'ing a Gingko Cloud 9. It has made a definite difference for the better. I don't know that I can explain the physics though.
Turntable Leveling Question VPI Scout
That's what I thought...you'd level the platter in case the center motor bearing was off a bit in relation to the plinth. Maybe the platter on the Scout isn't dished because I get just about center bubble all the way around the platter? If it was ...
Turntable Leveling Question VPI Scout
Dgarretson,So you level on the plinth?
