Pass Labs X350 versus Plinius SA250IV
I kept thinking, and i have to agree with you Timchen. Dynaudio'a are more neutral than dry, and being driven-most of the time-with powerful SS amps they tend to sound somewhat analytical. Plinius 100MkIII can be had for $1600, prices went down fo...
Pass Labs X350 versus Plinius SA250IV
I can relate. Own 3.0 and Plinius 100 MkIII and seem that no amount of wattage is enough. In this case i would vote for Pass. More transparent. But Mc Cormack 500 even better! IMHO!
New preamp or other suggestions?
I am afraid that Thiels (in your room) are at fault here. Despite my admiration for 3.6, or any Thiel model, room interaction is crucial here. Quick fix to ad a "buffer" in some form of euphonic "magic tube" is wrong way about it. That kind of app...
Do I turn off my tubed components during burn-in?
...mathematics wasn't one of your stronger subjects...Still isn't but counting your gear wasn't exactly my priority at the time. I do own tubed pre amp, and nice one too. However you guesed corectly at least one thing: I do not turn it own anymore...
Do I turn off my tubed components during burn-in?
To Ecclectic genius: WHICH (there is couple of dozen on your list) pre-amp you DIDN't turn off? All of them? Are they still on?
Do I turn off my tubed components during burn-in?
What's the rush? I do not leave ANY of the electronic components on all the time. One hour is enough for any of the components to warm-up, and in time your gear will "brake-in," if there is a such a thing?! Take your time, enjoy the music and forg...
Best Full Range Speakers For Under $1100 ?
Paradigm ref. 100.1
Lots of cool pictures from VSAC 2003
Thanks Sid, loved those ELECTRONLUV amps from Return of Dr. Frankenstein!
What after Aleph 3, need more juice?
hmmm...? W/P 5.1, are 4ohm, Aleph 3 is 60wpc into 4ohm! How BIG is your room...? If Aleph's 60watt (class A) wont do, you need more than a 100-200wpc in AB. Maybe Plinius 100 MkIII with 100wpc in class A? You ought to sell them and for the money g...
Single driver vs. mini monitor
Depending on what are you looking for. I assume you will be using some kind of Subwoofer? If not, Paradigm would have the most bass, and in that case i do not see having a single driver loudspeaker having any advantages over minimonitors mentioned...
B&W N800 vs Wilson WP7 vs Revel and others
I guess, we agree more than the initial posts would suggest. I own Dynaudio 3.0, and after the x-over upgrade took the sound to the new level. Bennic mylar and Solen caps were replaced with Mundrof and Hovland. Very disapointing finding that relat...
B&W N800 vs Wilson WP7 vs Revel and others
Well, YOU better check again. Focal is only the tweeter. And nothing wrong with them either. Scan-Speak 8545 is widely used mid/woofer. Seas Excel is another "cheesy" off the shelf driver that was succesfuly utilized by Joseph's (20K) Pearl. Quali...
B&W N800 vs Wilson WP7 vs Revel and others
Not true! Scan-Speak drivers used in Wilson midrange is one of the best, if not the best midrange you can find regardless of the origin (off-shelf, or house made). Wilsons, just like any and every other speakers have its issues. He went and at lea...
Tube integrated amp for my son's first system.
I know CPD, what the world has come to? If you want to rise the interest in music to your kids, do not let them watch TV and have them learn the instrument.
Which artists do you just NOW get?
Los Lobos! Bought Kiko, as recommended by stereophile. One of the worst music i ever heard.
