Audiophile pets and their names...
My wife and kids went to the pound without me and adopted a rescue dog.  Turns out his name was / is Miles.  And yeah, he is a very cool dog!
$800 to spend on speakers, $1500 on whole system
213 running makes some good suggestions.  I would add that you look at some of the other gear in the NAD line up, and also check out Cambridge Audio's options.  Marantz also makes a two-channel integrated with an onboard DAC that you can probably ...
Best speakers for Pink Floyd?
"IMO, the ultimate PF DSOM speaker is the stock "mono" speaker in a 1967 Volkswagon bug."I disagree--VW Bus!  Don't bogart that. . .well, you know. That said, my Vandersteen 5s are pretty fine sounding with that particular recording.

I have the SA-11S2--great player for both SACD and Redbook.  I can only echo the comments of the previous respondents in this thread (sound and build quality beyond reproach).  I have not jumped on the fuse bandwagon, but this thread has me consid...
Balanced preamp with HT bypass
BAT pre-amps have unity gain (essentially HT bypass) and of course are fully balanced.  But, there is no 12v or RS232 trigger.  You can program a button on the BAT remote to put the pre-amp into unity gain setting though.
How to upgrade in pieces - or - tell me about your journey!
Since you want to stay digital right through the signal chain with Meridian gear.  They really are considered the thought leader in digital processing and equipment design.  A pair of Meridian 5200s will run you in the $4-$5K range but this will i...
I think I've Just Seen Absolute Proof That Audiophiles Are Insanely Gullible
Dang. . what to do!  Wuz fixin' to send all my money to that purdy sangin' TV preacher man what wuz gonna gar-on-tee me eternity in paradise.  But now I'm a thinkin' "why wait" since this'll get me to heaven while I'm still right here on earth.
Good looking Towers for < $2000?
I have to endorse what Johnny R says and like the entire Vandersteen line . .but naturally I’m biased since it’s where I put my own money (Model 5s--definitely not a black, rectangular box!). Given what you’ve told us about your preferences, you m...
Using the Vandersteen M5-HT with a JL e112 sub
I have both Vandersteen 5s and a 2Wq.  In the case of the M5, it's doing "half" the job, while the sub/electronics are tuned complete the job--they are designed as a system vs. as interchangeable components.  The M5, installed between the pre- and...
Single vs Double Bi-wire....should I reconsider?
Hi Jetson--good catch on my bad link and I'm glad you still found the article.  I'm using true double bi-wires to my model fives (AQ Pikes Peak) and the cable is "heavy enough" to just lie there separated by the requisite 1" to 2".  If I was ever ...
Jimmy Fallon has a Mcintosh turntable
"Same as they buy Mercedes when there are Americans cars that are better for 1/2 the price."That's a fine line and a matter of opinion.  I needed a full size SUV to tow my boat and drove everything new out there before settling on a used MB GL 450...
How can it be that some old recordings sound sublime?
Celtic nailed it--no overdubs, heavy processing, etc.. But also minimal or judicious use of compression.  A recording being mastered for home listening will not have the dynamic range compression of a recording that is anticipated for radio playba...
I notice a lot of reviewers buy the sample piece
My understanding is that it could be a combination of both--what is known as an "accommodation" price and a commitment not to resell for a period of time.  I use the word "could" deliberately because I am fairly certain there my be some manufactur...
Single vs Double Bi-wire....should I reconsider?
You can read all about it from the designer/engineer himself.  He does a great job of explaining the benefit and technical rationale.  I have a great deal of respect for Richard, and currently own Model 5s plus a 2Wq (although I will be selling it...
Jimmy Fallon has a Mcintosh turntable
Taters, my comment about driving down the price of LPs is pure conjecture and based on a ton of variables, so what I stated is by no means guaranteed (hence the "could" qualifier.  That said, I was being optimistic that normal patterns will follow...
